Here's the thing: it was the router. After hooking up the WRT54G, it has been solid ever since. No problems with Vonage whatsoever. All my calls have been clear and clean.

from the phone port (I use the PAP2, but it doesn't matter), a typical phone cord goes into my Inline Patch (it's a box with phone ports and knobs to adjust all kinds of levels) ...
