Vonage In Print News

November 24, 2003

MARK HAINES, co-anchor:

The buzz today is all about wireless portability, one could
argue the Internet is netting some big gains in the phone
business. Voice-over Internet Protocol, Voip is gaining
ground. The Baby Bells are jumping into the game, all
wanting to compete in the space with start-up firms like
Vonage. For as little as 35 bucks a month, you can call
anywhere in North America for no additional charge. It is
not free, because you are paying $35 a month.

Today, Vonage is announcing it has secured $35 million in additional financing.

Joining us now to discuss the business is the
CFO of Vonage, John Rego, thank you for being with us.

You have how many customers right now?

Mr. JOHN REGO (Vonage CFO): As we speak, about 72,000
customers on the platform, we launched service in April of

HAINES: You expect next year to have 250,000.

Mr. REGO: We'll exit this year with 250,000, and next year
we'll have closer to 300,000 customers. Basically, for
$34.99 customers can call every state in the United States,
plus Canada at no extra charge. International calling rates
we terminate to every country in the world are modest and
robust. And the amazing amount of features that you
normally pay extra for at your telephone company are no
extra charge.

HAINES: Now, can I access 411 from your system?

Mr. REGO: You can, but since this is an Internet service,
as opposed to traditional landline service, you can do a
lot of things with 411. You can get just a phone number,
you can give a phone number and get an address, and get
sports scores or reservations, or anything you want. So
it's an enhanced service.

HAINES: Are you special in that regard, because I got a
pitch from my cable provider saying, we can now give you
phone service. I assume this is VoIP, but the fine print
said, you can`t get 411.

Mr. REGO: It is a form of VoIP, and a lot of cable folks
are jumping in to the space, but they're not doing it the
way we're doing it. There are a couple of things about the
Vonage service that make it very unique. One is, it's
mobile, we send you a little box to plug into any broadband
Internet connection--the one in your home, or the one in
your hotel room. So you can actually take your phone
number with you and travel with your phone number. You can
have any phone number you want. We offer phone numbers in
37 of the 50 states right now, so if you would like a
Beverly Hills, California phone number in New York City,
you can have it.

HAINES: Oh, now you`ve got my interest-- this sounds pretty

Mr. REGO: So if you've got friends in Beverly Hills, they
can make a local phone call.

HAINES: So you can have a Beverly Hills area code?

Mr. REGO: You can have any one of the 171 area codes that
we offer.

HAINES: This sounds really cool!

Mr. REGO: In a short amount of time we've build enough
networks to offer phone numbers in 37 of 50 states. We'll
use some of the $35 million we've raised, just announced,
with NEA, to build out the rest of our network, so we'll
be offering service in all 50 states next year.

HAINES: The quality of the phone calls?

Mr. REGO: The quality of the phone calls is as good as, if
not better than, the traditional telephone call.

DAVID FABER, co-anchor:

The plan here is what? Build up a customer base and then
sell to a Baby Bell.

Mr. REGO: We're building the company to make a very
profitable company.

FABER: You will have to do that, sell out, you will not
have enough ability to raise capital. Thirty-five million
is great, but 350 million, 500 million--the money you
really need?

Mr. REGO: Well, the $35 million caps what is $65 million in
total, and very different from the traditional telephone
world is, for that $35 million, not only will we finish out
the US, but we'll build out all of Canada, and we'll build
out a nice part of Europe as well. By the end of this
quarter we will actually be in Canada. And by the end of
the first quarter, we will be in the UK, and Switzerland
and be jumping off the rest of Europe as well. So, yes we
can do it.

HAINES: Why not go public, to raise the capital?

Mr. REGO: No compelling need to go public at this moment,
65 million dollars raised in the in the private equity side
is great. And I'll tell you something--when you take a
partner like New Enterprise Associates, it is a premier
venture capital firm in the United States, five billion
dollars under management. It is very nice when you have a
partner like that, because when we went on the roadshow to
raise money, it was more about--not give me your money, it
was give me expertise. Give me a phone number to call if I
need help, give me a way to conquer a new market, and
that's the kind of partners we are looking for.

HAINES: I have to leave it there but I will be checking it
out, I want the Beverly Hills area code. Vonage CFO, John
Rego. Thank you very much sir.
