Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

May 15, 2008

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

In the Forums
Who needs rotary dialing with Vonage? Do rotary phones even exist except in the backwaters of some swamp in Alabama? Well, apparently some people want the feature - at least according to this thread in the Vonage Forums. Go figure...

As you know, Vonage's headquarters is in New Jersey. Well apparently, we have a "pro-New Jersey-ite" over in the topic aptly titled New Jersey (You're from New Jersey? What exit?) who writes, "New Jersey is a place that is pretty free of natural disasters. No earthquake will come and knock out your service". Another poster replies, "But server crash and other things will. Power failures at your house, internet outage." As for me, I'm hearkening back to my Alabama swamps comment above when I think of New Jersey and it's swamps - not to mention being known as the "Garbage/Garden State"? Ok, don't you Jersey-ites get in a huff -- I still like Jersey!

In the News
If you interested in the financial prospects for Vonage, especially if you're a Vonage stockholders, then sometimes it's better to witness first hand Vonage's stockholders' meetings and even get to vote your shared in-person. As such, Vonage recently announced that it will hold its 2008 Annual Stockholders' Meeting on Friday, May 16, 2008 at 10:00 a.m at the Robert Meyner Reception Center in the PNC Bank Arts Center located in Holmdel, New Jersey. Stockholders of record at the close of business on March 31, 2008 may attend the 2008 Annual Stockholders' Meeting and vote their shares.

But if you can't make the meeting, it will also be webcast live through Vonage's Investor Relations website at http://ir.vonage.com. Windows Media Player or RealPlayer is required to listen to this webcast. A replay of the shareholders' meeting will be available shortly after the live webcast and will be available for two weeks. Nice to see Vonage embracing streaming IP audio for its shareholders' meetings, since streaming two-way IP audio (VoIP) is Vonage's bread-and-butter. Too bad it's audio only and not video. Speaking of video, when is Vonage going to start offering a videophone? After Vonage stopped offering the Viseon videophone unfortunately nothing has taken its place. While video phones are still very "niche", many consumers are looking for advanced features when choosing a broadband VoIP service provider.

Vonage Tip of the Day:
With Mothers' Day past (you did call your mom, right?) and Fathers' Day just a month away, you might be considering doing something cool for your dad. While I don't recommend not sending a Fathers' Day card, Vonage has a neat free service that lets you send a Fathers' Day message to your dad.

Here's how it works:
  1. Dial 1-700-GREETINGS (1-700-473-3846) from any Vonage telephone.
  2. Select from a list of funny or poignant sayings.
  3. Enter the phone number of the person you would like to forward the saying to — anywhere in the US, Canada or Puerto Rico.
Currently Vonage 700-GREETINGS supports the following holidays, special occasions, etc.
  • Mother's Day
  • Father's Day
  • Birthdays
  • Graduations
  • Military Appreciation Day
  • Just Because
Vonage Stock Report
Today, Vonage is currently trading at $1.83 (+$0.01) and closed yesterday at $1.82 or 3 cents lower from Monday's close.
