Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest.

We will go straight to two Vonage Forum threads, one about Vonage Caller ID, and the other is about the Vonage V-Portal. Then we'll check on Vonage's stock price. 



On The Vonage Voip Forum  

Customizing incoming Caller ID w/names is a new Vonage Forum thread that has been started up by Vonage Forum Member SellMarg.

SellMarg wrote:

I can't customize caller ID records that come in with a personalized name, such as "Mom", instead of what the default comes in, such as "wireless caller". My call to Vonage was their standard "it's your problem/phone on your end".

I'm tired of looking at telephone numbers and guessing who it is. Can this be fixed? I need help gathering what to post to this forum and/or Vonage. I ran the speed check. How do I know what kind of adapter is used? Thank you.

First fellow Vonage Forum Member to respond is kdf55, who writes:

"On caller ID, you get what the phone company sends as caller ID. Some cell phone companies list the subscribers name, others on list that it is a wireless. Vonage has no control over that. At this time, I don't believe they have the capabilities, like your cell phone, that when someone calls, it displays what you have programmed in your phone. That may be a part of the alpha program, "contact book", but I can't say for sure."

SellMarg answered:

"That's exactly what I'm talking about, the "alpha contact book" you referred to. My phone has it's own "phone book" and when a call comes in, it's supposed to match the numbers and display the name I gave it. I tested the phone on another line from another provider we subscribed to over the internet (Add-a-Jack or something like that) to make sure it worked, it's not a problem with the phone. Why won't this work for the Vonage service? Any suggestions are appreciated!"

And then mundy5 responded by writing:

"That's odd. I have a Panasonic cordless phone and it works fine after I enter in the phone number into its phone book. "I must say that it's not necessarily Vonage but it could be some kind of incompatibility. what kind of phone do you have?"

Because Vonage Forum Member RonRN18 wants to know about the new Vonage V-Portal, he starts up a Vonage Forum thread having the title of  V-Portal question.

He writes:

"I've seen that Vonage has a new device called the V-Portal, which is a new Vonage adapter that is also a router. I am just curious if I HAVE to connect up a computer downstream to the adapter in order to take advantage of features. I do not want my Vonage adapter to get between my Internet connection and my current router. I'm currently using a PAP2 adapter I've been using for about three years. It seems as though they've included a router in most of the devices since, which I do not care for. 

"My current router has two sub-networks... 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24. I place the PAP2 on the 192.168.1.0/24 network and all my other computers and appliances on 192.168.0.0/24. Bandwidth for call quality is of no real concern for me as I have a 20Mbps bidirectional connection, so I don't really need the Vonage device to throttle my traffic for QOS, plus if I really need it, I can set up QOS in my current router. 

"I have several VPN's set between my router and several family members routers and I'm afraid placing the Vonage device between my Internet connection and my router would screw that up.

"Back to the original question, will I need to have a computer connected downstream for the V-Portal to work properly? Would it be a waste to connect it up with all my computers on a completely separate network?"

To that specific question, fellow Vonage Forum Member brian188 writes in part, "No. You don't need a PC after the adapter."

Vonage Stock Report

On today, Vonage stock closed at $2.00 a share, an increase of three cents (+1.52%)  from Friday's  $1.97 a share close, but then again, today's closing price was 2 cents higher than today's lowest Vonage stock price and that was $1.98 a share. At the close of today's trading, Vonage shares traded had reached up to 687,275 shares.
