Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

First, we'll check on some Vonage news. Then we will go straight to two Vonage Forum threads, one about router passwords, and the other thread is about trying to get Vonage on a mobile phone. We'll also check in on Vonage's stock price.

In The News

Vonage UK Signs a Deal For Web Chat

Vonage UK and inQ announced today that inQ'sChatCommerce services will be integrated into Vonage UK’s Web site so that customers and potential customers can chat with live representatives, who will be available 24/7 to answer questions and address concerns.

Patrick Bernard of TMCNet writes in part that:

"inQ’s service has unique interactive features: For example, if a visitor to Vonage UK’s Web site spends a lot of time there, flipping back and forth between pages (perhaps indicating some level of confusion or indecision), a small chat box will automatically pop up and a representative who is well-versed on Vonage’s business philosophy will reach out to the visitor. The goal of this is to create a “high quality, personalized sales experience just as they would get in a shop.” In other words, it’s the same as a store clerk walking up to you while you’re in-shop and saying “may I help you with something?”

All aspects of the service will be managed centrally by inQ, including the software, Web analytics and the “live agents” who will provide the “human touch.”

“This will lead to more accountability for Vonage and a more responsive and efficient experience for their online customers,” a press release from Vonage UK and inQ states.

“At Vonage we pride ourselves on innovation and delivering excellence across online responsiveness, quality control and customer experience,” said Vonage UK Marketing Director Vincent Potier in the release. “So when we discovered fellow internet trailblazer, inQ, we seized the opportunity to bring their new ground-breaking technology and approach to the UK.”

Potier added: “We believe the partnership will bring the human touch to our customers’ experience, give them the assistance they need to make the right purchase and ultimately lead to a dramatic uplift in our sales. We are yet again leading the way with this fully integrated approach to ChatCommerce and suspect many more will follow in our footsteps.”

By the way, speaking of the UK we have a vonage-forum.com/forum6.html">Vonage UK Forum here on the Vonage Forums. There's lots of interesting threads there, including more than a few that would be helpful to Vonage users who are not in the UK. Go check out the Vonage UK Forum at that link I just made.

On The Vonage VoIP Forum

vonage-forum.com/ftopic21194.html">Router Password Pre-Configured RT31P2 is a new Vonage Forum thread that has been started up by Vonage Forum Member vonage-forum.com/member-viewprofile-44577.html">beefy1.

"I have the Linksys RT31P2 router that was provided by Vonage as a replacement for one that went bad," beffy1 writes. "I am trying to access the router so I can set it up for an external wireless A/P. The problem is the username/password is not the default admin/admin that is in the documentation. Does anyone know what Vonage changes the password to when they send out a pre-configured router?"

"Not that i know of. ... was it reconditioned??," asks fellow Vonage Forum Member vonage-forum.com/member-viewprofile-44905.html">DrVoip. "Try a direct connection to the device w/out the internet connected to the device...sometimes I've found that you may be able to access the interface after a refresh of the browser..and retyping the ip address...also resetting the device will default the password.

vonage-forum.com/member-viewprofile-16041.html">Steve48 points out that, "normally Vonage routers are sent out using the default password. DrVoip had it right in suggesting a reset. That would be the first step."

vonage-forum.com/member-viewprofile-44410.html">VoipFrus joins the thread next. "If you hard reset the vonage device it will erase whatever password is on it, and set it back to the default admin/admin," he explains.

A further explanation is then provided in a follow-up post by Steve48.

"Generally speaking, a reset returns the device to the configuration that it should have been in when it arrived from Vonage," he explains. "It doesn't change the special parameters that only Vonage can access.

"Since you haven't been able to access the device and enter any changes that you want to preserve," Steve48 points out to beefy1, "a reset shouldn't hurt and may help."

Now we are going to talk about a Vonage Forum thread that has been named, vonage-forum.com/ftopic21186.html">SIP settings for WM6 phone. The thread was started up by Vonage Forum Member vonage-forum.com/member-viewprofile-33214.html">DKB.

He wrote:

"vonage-forum.com/ftopic20941.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">This post may answer my question but I went ahead and sent the Q over to Vonage Tech Support. My goal is to get "ANY" VoIP number to work on one of my WM6 (Windows Mobile 6) phones. I currently have T-Mobile Dash (rebranded HTC), and enabling VoIP via SIP on that device seems trivial.

Ideally I'd like my only Vonage Service to be SIP on my cell phone. I guess I could send back the router or simply tell them to disable both line 1 and line 2 and just give me the SIP login information to plug in my phone.

Anyway here's what I wrote in the email:
===
I have two cell phones that support VoIP using SIP natively. I can configure those phones to use whatever SIP provider I choose. As a Vonage Customer, I'd like to use Vonage. In order to login to a sip provider, my script requires the following fields: {sip_provider_name, account, password, sip_address_<sip:userid@whatever.com>, sip_proxy_address, sip_registrar_address}.

Does your technical staff have this information? If not, can they recommend another VoIP service in North America that might?"

An answer is then offered in the form of a follow-up post authored by fellow Vonage Forum Member vonalink.

"You will need the Vonage softphone *add-on* to get SIP credentials for use with any softphone," vonage-forum.com/member-viewprofile-30633.html">vonalink has written. "There are many SIP providers that allow you to use any SIP phone."
