Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest. To our Vonage Forum Members in the U.S., I hope you had a great Thanksgiving Holiday weekend.

First, we'll catch up on some Vonage news. Then, let's go straight to two Vonage Forum threads, one about USB and Ethernet connections relating to using Vonage, and the other thread is about what sounds like router-related log in issues. We'll also check in on Vonage's stock price.

Vonage Tops Reader Survey of Voip Providers

In a recent reader survey of favorite technology providers and products conducted by PC Magazine, Vonage led all Voip providers, jumping to a rating of 7.8 from 7.5.

"Vonage is also the market leader among our readers, with 736 respondents, more than double the nearest competition (Comcast)," wrote Sascha Segan, one of PC Magazine's best-known writers.


On The Vonage Voip Forum  

An important but sometimes overlooked point is raised in a new Vonage Forum thread which bears the title of, Huawei WA1003a Linksys PAP2 Phone1 Led not Lit.

Let's go through the posts on this thread, and you hopefully will see what I mean.

"Vonage Forum Member anandg, who launched this thread, writes this in his thread-opening post:

"Location is Bangalore and ISP is BSNL. I am using a Huawei WA1003a router.
Router is configured to use PPPoE with proper username and password
DHCP server is on in the router's configuration
I am able to browse the net successfully.
I have a Linksys PAP2 with 2 ports for VOIP, one ethernet port.

I have connected Router's ethernet port and Linksys ethernet port.
Linksys Phone1 to the telephone
Router's USB port to computer's USB port.

Linksys power is on and ethernet light is steady, but the phone1 light is not on. I am not able to hear any dial tone.

I tried to get the IP assigned to the Linksys using 110# and the ip was and DHCP configuration is Server On with starting IP = and ending ip ="

Our most frequently posting Vonage Forum Member, Steve48, replies:

"I don't know about the 1003a, but most modem/routers that provide both USB and ethernet connections don't permit both at the same time," Steve48 writes.

At this point, fellow Vonage Forum Member tglea jumps on board this thread with a detailed explanation of why this can't be done at the same time.

"Steve is right. You can't use the ethernet and USB at the same time," tglea writes. 

"I think you are getting your terminology confused as well. I believe you have a DSL modem that has built in routing capabilities. The only routers that I know of use USB for a built in print server or USB storage, not for network connections," tglea explains further. Unplug the USB from your computer but leave the ethernet connected to the Vonage device. Reboot the modem and Vonage device and see if you can connect. If so, you should go and buy a switch so you can use ethernet for both your computer and Pap2."

Vonage Forum Member savelieffd seems to be having some router log-in difficulties. Because of this issue, he has decided to open a new Vonage Forum thread to which he gave it the name of, can't login to router - RTP300.

Much of this thread involves an exchange of posts between savelieffd and fellow Vonage Forum Member Darrell_G:

First is savelieffd:

"I've been trying to log in to my rtp300 router, but when i try to log in with the default admin/admin combo, i keep getting error message "error:User not allowed to login this user level. I've tried resetting the router, tried using uppercase, no username, and nothing works. any ideas what the problem is?"

Darrell_G replies:

"The default ip address of the RTP300 is and the default username and password is "admin" without quotes. Are you logged in to your computer with administrator rights? Do you have another router in the loop?"

Then savelieffd responded that he does have another router connected in the loop, for wireless connections.

Darrell_G then asks:

"Is the wireless router in front or behind the RTP300? If the wireless router is in front, what IP address is the wireless router assigning to the RTP300? Are you able to login to your wireless router?"

That question brought this response from savelieffd:

"Connection goes modem-rtp300-router, but I'm connected straight to the rtp300 from this computer. the ip address assigned is"

With that information now available to him, Darrell_G wrote back:

"With that current setup, you should be able to successfully login to the RTP300 using "admin" as the default username and password. Try resetting the device again by pressing and holding the reset button for 30 seconds then try logging in with the default "admin." Are you logged in to your computer with administrator privileges? That's the only thing that I can think of that would NOT allow you to login to the device?"

At this juncture, Steve48 came on this thread, with a post in which he suggested to savelieffd that "just to eliminate any complications, try disconnecting the second router while you troubleshoot this issue."

Vonage Stock Report

Today, Vonage stock closed at $2.10 a share, a decline of two cents (-0.94%)  from Friday's $2.12 a share close, but then again, today's closing price was five cents higher than today's lowest Vonage stock price and that was $2.05 a share. At the close of today's trading, Vonage shares traded during today's regular trading hours climbed to 631,435 shares.
