Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

November 14, 2007

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest.

Let's go straight to two Vonage Forum threads, one about antennas for a router to work with Vonage, and the other it is having to do with a request for opinions about a router. We'll also check in on Vonage's stock price.

On The Vonage Voip Forum

In a new Vonage Forum thread he has opened and is calling Upgrading the VT2542 Antenna, Vonage Forum Member TomKatMi asked:

"Has anyone upgraded the VT2542 antenna to extend the range? If so, what did you get and where did you buy it?"

Reading TomKatMi's post, fello9w Vonage Forum Member kumakuma HAS replied, "I think no one had tried that. Usually we just buy the wireless range extender."

That response brings this follow-up post from TomKatMi:

What about something like this:
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10403540&loc=

I read the reviews, some noticed an improvement and some didn't. For the net price ($13.99) I'd be willing to try it and report back to the group.

Anyone know if this thing could easily replace the antenna on a VT2542?
Does the existing antenna on a VT2542 just unscrew?
And if so, would the "RP-SMA to TNC AdapterCable: 1.5m RG-178 50 Ohms" (whatever the hell that is) screw right in?"

This thread is still active and I am monitoring it fur further posts we might place in the Vonage Forum Digest later this week.

Next, I see this new Vonage Forum thread that asks an important question to which I am sure there will be follow-up posts (maybe even you?)

This thread I refer to is being called Vonage Troubles & New Router Needed

Vonage Forum Member Woob, who has established the thread, is asking this:

"We've had Vonage for about 2 years now, works nicely since you can call everywhere. However having 2 routers seems to be causing frequent shortages/blank areas of wireless and it's been a extremely troublesome.

Does the Motorola VT2542 work reliably & strong? Is there an access fee of 29.99? How does it compare to other routers on the market? Debating whether to buy a D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit ROuter Dir655 or a Linksys WRT54GS, both seem very good in their class. Right now for some reason the Vonage tech assembled:

Cable > Vonage 300RTP (Bad) > Wireless Router, I believe it seems quite efficient to have 2 routers. Should I setup:

Cable > Wireless Router > Vonage 300RTP / PC Wired?

Thanks, these internet issues are driving the family absolutely mad."

Now would be a great time for some of you to join this thread and give Woob the benefit of your own experiences.
