Vonage VoIP Forum Digest - October 19 - 21, 2007

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

October 19, 2007

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest.

First, let us catch up on some Vonage news. Then, let's go straight to two Vonage Forum threads, one about ringing related issues, and the other thread happens to be about using Vonage with a fax machine.. We'll also check in on Vonage's stock price.

In The News

Vonage To Sponsor Notre Dame-Southern Cal Pre-Game Show Tomorrow

In U.S. college football, Notre Dame (1-6) hosts USC (5-1), No. 13 in the AP poll, Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC. Coverage begins on NBCSports.com at 3 p.m. ET with the "Vonage Notre Dame Countdown to Kickoff."

On The Vonage Voip Forum

A Vonage Forum Member with the very colorful user name of mingthemerciful began a Vonage Forum thread with the title, Simultaneous ring + Incoming calls NOT working: Help!

"I've used Vonage for many years now and rely on it for my business," mingthemerciful writes. "The last 1 week, I've noticed that many of my customers cannot reach me. I'm not sure who is able to, and who is not able to. I do know that 2 WIRELESS numbers cannot reach me at all, one of them being a Verizon cell phone. My Vonage line rings perpetually and the landline designated as the Simultaneous ring number does NOT ring.

"When I pick up the Vonage line, there is no answer," he explains further. "From the customer viewpoint, they don't hear anything when they call my Vonage line. No ring, nothing. Others just hear perpetual ringing. This has caused thousands of dollars in lost business so far and I am ready to leave Vonage immediately.

"Any thoughts/input would be greatly appreciated."

Steve48 offers a response.

"This really sounds like an issue for customer service," writes Steve48, who is closing in on an amazing 4,000 posts. "However, the first thing I'd do, since the Vonage phone appears to be unusable, is to unplug the Vonage box. Make sure that you have a working network outage number entered on your account.

"See if calls to you now get routed to that number," Steve48 advises. "If they don't, you've verified a network issue at the Vonage end and you can report that to them when you call."

Newbie question on how to physically connect a fax machine is a Vonage Forum thread that was started up by Vonage Forum Member JasonVW.

"I have had Vonage for 2 years now and am getting ready to add a fax line," JasonVW writes. "I have the VTech wireless router and 3 phones running thru a Comcast Cable Modem. I am in Minneapolis, MN. I have a HP 6310 all in one machine and want to hook it up to a dedicated fax line.

"My question is "how to do this?". Do I need a new router that has a phone line plug (my VTech does not) and then just plug the HP the machine into that?," he asks. "What do I do with my existing VTech wireless phones then?"

Once again, it is Steve48 who answers.

"Interesting question. I assume the VTech to which you refer is one of the Voip phones. Is that correct?," Steve48 asks.

"If so, and it has no phone ports, then you'll definitely need another adapter," Steve48 continues to write. "Generally speaking, you can buy additional adapters, register them with Vonage, and then move numbers around between your adapters using your online account page. I believe (but am not certain) that you can do this with a fax line.

"That way, your VTech would continue to work, and your fax line, being a different number, could be set to work on the new adapter," Steve48 explains.

Vonage Stock Report

Today, Vonage stock closed at $1.54 a share, a decrease of 13 cents (-7.78%)  from Thursday's $1.67 a share close, but then again, today's closing price was four cents higher than today's lowest Vonage stock price and that was $1.50 a share. At the close of today's trading, Vonage shares traded on today became 1,989,000 shares..
