Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest. 

First, a special announcement. Earlier today, we passed 110,000 articles that have been posted on the Vonage Forum since we started up in March, 2003. Vonage has grown, and we (who are not affiliated with Vonage by the way) have grown as well!

First, let us catch up on some Vonage news. Then, let's go straight to two Vonage Forum threads, one about reaching a non-working number, and the other thread is concerned with getting recommendations for a router to work with the Vonage service. We'll also check in on Vonage's stock price.



In The News

Vonage Schedules Quarterly Earnings Announcement

Vonage says it will report its financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2007 on Thursday, November 8, 2007. The earnings release will be available on Vonage's Investor Relations website at http://ir.vonage.com.

Management will host a webcast discussion of the quarter's results on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at 10:00 AM Eastern Time. To participate, please dial (800) 289-0544 approximately ten minutes prior to the call. International callers should dial (913) 312-1294. A replay will be available approximately two hours after the conclusion of the call until midnight November 22, 2007, and may be accessed by dialing (888) 203-1112. International callers should dial (719) 457-0820. Replay Passcode: 3966043

The webcast will be broadcast live through Vonage's Investor Relations website at http://ir.vonage.com. Windows Media Player or RealPlayer is required to listen to this webcast. A replay will be available shortly after the live webcast and will be available for two weeks.

Vonage Forum Member photo99 posts a thread that he has named, you have reached a non working number"

Here's what's on this thread at the time I wrote today's Vonage Forum Digest.

First, photo99 wrote:

3. Don't know my speeds but I did go thru this previously with a tech rep and he said they were good
4. I can make outgoing calls but when someone calls in from a Non Vonage phone they get the message "you have reached a non working number"
5. I called tech support and they said everything was okay on their end and would escalate to higher level. they gave me a ticket number and said it would take 24-48 hours to resolve. I asked if others were having this problem and they said "no". I can't really believe that. They did ask who my prior phone company was, it was Verizon, and they said to call them because my number might be out of their database. I said I have been with Vonage for a year and they are now my phone company and why would I call Verizon? I can't think of a reason why Verizon would want to help. What could be the problem and do you think it will be resolved?"

"So you have had this number for over a year with Vonage? I guess this problem has just started to happen? The rep might have thought that maybe you were a new customer and the number was in transition from Verizon to Vonage," writes fellow Vonage Forum Member roscopco. By the way, roscopco is now our ninth most posted Vonage Forum Member.

Photo99 reads Roscopco's post and then he answers with a new post.

"Yes, I am NOT a new customer," photo99 replies. "I have had this service for nearly a year with no problems until last month when the audio on my side stopped (dropped calls). I was told to get a new cable box that worked with DOCSIS 1.1 or higher. I got a new box two days ago and thought my problems were over. But now I get this new message and cannot receive any incoming calls."

I think this thread is worth following, as new posts are probably going to be added.

From time to time here on the Vonage Forum, we see new threads that ask for equipment recommendations. Such a thread has been started by Vonage Forum Member thunderred, and the thread is called, Which router do you recommend?

So thunderred starts off this thread by writing this:

"Well, today was my day off. Normally, I enjoy my days off, surfing the net. playing online games, or watching movies (something online movies from Netflix)... anyway... today and days before (but today I felt worst), my connection was bad, sometimes I get up to 12 mb, and others 0, with any reason, the LEDs in the router look ok, but I can't get to any website... and a couple o minutes later, without modify anything I can go online again, (until I get to the page for write this post, it's take more than 10 minutes).

Anyway, I thing probably is something to do with the router WRTP54G, because, before I used to have Verizon (1.5 mb) and old westell model, and I can go online faster enough. Now, I have Comcast (8mb) and the router Linksys, and is going most of the time, slower that before... and I get more disconnections.


So, I decide, I will go to change the product for a different one. Since I get the router in the BestBuy stores, I will to take a different products that the can provide me. So I was checking and I saw this one:

Someone have any idea or experience with this one? and of course I will take the PAP2 adapter and I will still using Vonage.

Any other recommendations, in the same range of price?"

The first reply comes from fellow Vonage Forum Member jimsmith.

"I've used both, and prefer the Linksys," wrote jimsmith. "First thing I would do is to verify that the router firmware is up to date (check with Mfg). Also, your issue may be external congestion...more people accessing the Internet than your local node can support."

Thunderred answers, "firmware is up to date, I spend more than two hours in the phone with one of the tech guys, until they were able to upgrade the firmware. "Any idea or recommendation of other router?

Next comes Darrell_G, one of our most active Vonage Forum posters over the last few months.

"Before you added the WRTP54G, did you have any problems with your cable connection?," Darrell_G asks. "Remove the WRTP54G for a while and monitor your cable connection before you go out and purchase another device...The problem could be the cable modem or your ISP. The only way to know for sure is to remove your Vonage adapter and observe your connection for drops or loss of connectivity.

"After you remove the WRTP54G, run the Voip speed test and post your results," Darrell_G adds.

Vonage Stock Report

Today, Vonage stock closed at $1.76 a share, an decrease of four cents (-2.22%)  from Tuesday's $1.80 a share close, but then again, today's closing price was six cents higher than today's lowest Vonage stock price and that was $1.70 a share. At the close of today's trading, Vonage shares traded on today were figured up to wind up being 1,012,500 shares..
