Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

September 6, 2007

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest.

First, let's catch up on some Vonage news. Then we'll go straight to two interesting Vonage Forum threads, one about what might be Vonage line provisioning issues and the other, from someone you might not expect,  is about Vonage's basic 500 plan. Finally, we'll check on Vonage's stock price.

On The Vonage VoIP Forum

Motorola VT2442,-This is telephone line is not provisioned is a new Vonage Forum thread started by Vonage Forum Member Ban.

Ban writes:

"I'm using VT2442 connected to Beetel 220BX modem through Airtel (India).

I've been using Vonage successfully for last 6 months, but I'm getting the message "This is telephone line is not provisioned. Please try the other line" from past week. Following are the changes I have made recently (the problem has started after making these changes):

1. I've connected 1 more comp through an Intex Switch
2. I have formatted my hard rive

I dont know whether this problem is due to the changes I've made; but Vonage was working perfect until I added 1 more comp.

Apart from the above message ("line not provisioned...") the Power light on VT2442 always blinks intermittently and Phone 1 light never glows.

PS: I've also tried connecting the Modem/VT2442 directly to 1 comp (avoiding the Switch) without any success..."

Steve48 replies:

"Please post all the technical details listed in the sticky message at the top of the forum. Give details for both the old and the new setup. Are you getting internet service with the new setup? Does going back to the old setup get phone service back?"

Ban answers in a follow-up post. He writes:

"Thanks Steve. The recorded message says: "This telephone line is not provisioned for use. Please try the other line". Major difference (in old & new setup) is that I'm now connecting 2 computers through an Intex Switch. Vonage was working fine when I was connecting it directly to the modem with just one comp. But even now, when I'm trying to connect it with the same old set up, it is not connecting. Now I'm not getting the internet/phone service in either of the set up. Changes that I've noticed after the new set-up: 1. Power light blinks continuously. 2. Phone 1 light never glows 3. I do not get internet (even after trying the troubleshooting steps provided in Motorola manual). 4. All the lights on the Modem glow as required Do I need to make any changes in router configuration in 'voice gateway's default IP address'? (though I dont remember doing it in my old setup)..."

Now here's something that might surprise a few Vonage Forum Members. Steve48 always answers questions from other Vonage Forum Members- but on this new thread he's started, Steve is asking a question.

In this Vonage Forum thread Steve48 has started and is calling, Basic 500 plan, Steve asks:

"I'm on the Vonage basic 500 plan," Steve48 mentions. "Recently I noticed on my account page that my minutes used show correctly, but minutes remaining show as NA. How can it be NA when I'm on the 500 minute plan? It used to show the difference between 500 and minutes used. Anyone else noticed this?"

In the form of a follow-up post from fellow Vonage Forum Member tglea, Steve48 receives a response.

"I've had the same problem for about a week," tglea writes. "I hope it doesn't cause any billing problems when my cycle ends."
