Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

September 4, 2007

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest. To our U.S. readers, hope you had a great Labor Day weekend. Where did the summer go, anyway?

OK back to work.

First we'll catch up on some Vonage news. Then let's go straight to two interesting Vonage Forum threads, one about an issue with the VT2142, and there's another thread I write about in this edition, and it's about recording Vonage calls. Finally, we'll check on Vonage's stock price.

In The News

Vonage Spends $752,000 To Lobby U.S. Government

The Associated Press reports that  spent about $752,000 in the first half of 2007 to lobby the federal government, according to a disclosure form.

The company lobbied on the regulatory status of high-speed Internet communications and matters pertaining to emergency 911 communications.

Forbes wrote that Vonage has appealed a verdict after it was found guilty in March of infringing upon three patents held by Verizon Communications Inc. in constructing its Internet telephone system. Vonage said in early August it had "substantially completed the deployment of workarounds" for two of the patents, and has developed a workaround for the third one.

The company lobbied Congress and the Federal Communications Commission, according to the disclosure form posted online Aug. 14 by the Senate's public records office.

Under a federal law enacted in 1995, lobbyists are required to disclose activities that could influence members of the executive and legislative branches. They must register with Congress within 45 days of being hired or engaging in lobbying.

On The Vonage VoIP Forum

Vonage Forum Member viraldalia begins a Vonage Forum thread with a title that mentions his issue. He calls this thread,  vt2142 Power light turns red.

"I have vt2142. The power light on VT2142 continuously blinks green and then turns red... according to the troubleshoot FAQs I'm supposed to just restart it, but that does nothing," viraldalia writes.

"Anyone else have this problem?," he asks.

"This is network setup. Broadband connection(cable)---->vt2142(blue jack) pc---->vt2142(yellow) and then phone instrument ---->phone1 Only one cable comes from ISP at my place, I dont have any modem/router. I get the IP address of range 192.168.15.x in my pc."

As he does so often, fellow Vonage Forum Member Darrell_G provides an answer.

"It's not normal for the power light to continuously blink green and it definitely should not blink red...The power light should be a constant green," Darrell_G writes. "The only time the power light may blink green is when the VT2142 is being rebooted or is receiving a firmware update. Are you able to make or receive calls when the device is blinking green or red?"

Record a call? sums up the question  being raised by Vonage Forum Member marcelbos.

This thread has received two answers, the first being from fellow Vonage Member tophtml.

"Radio Shack Daval Technologies Tele-Recorder® TR-350 Auto Recording Sys. or equivalent. RJ11 pass through.

"Soft phones can use Audacity. Their website IS HERE!"

Next we have vonalink, who posted this Monday evening:

"We have developed SoloRecord which can record by monitoring packets via an ethernet hub." Below that, he links to his site: www.vonalink.com.

Vonage Stock Report

Today on the New York Stock Exchange, Vonage stock closed at $2.08 a share, a drop of  3 cents (-1.42%) from Friday's closing price of  $2.11 a share, but then again that closing price was 2 cents more than the day's lowest trading price for Vonage shares and that was $2.06 a share. Total shares traded on today came out as adding up to 572,000 shares.

That's what's hot about Vonage today. Check with us tomorrow for our next edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.
