Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

August 28, 2007

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest.

In one of the last days of summer, its kind of a slow day for Vonage news. So, let's go straight to two interesting Vonage Forum threads, one about a noisy router, and the other about installing Vonage. Finally, we'll check on Vonage's stock price.

In The News

Financial Site Profiles Key Vonage Supplier

The financial news and analysis website Blogging Stocks has an interesting profile of a Los Angeles-based company called PeopleSupport.

You might be wondering what PeopleSupport has to do with Vonage. Fair question.

"More and more businesses are finding that it can pay to outsource their telephone and Internet customer interface requirements to firms set up to efficiently handle such functions," writes Larry Schutts. "One such outfit is headquartered in Los Angeles, but operates from shops overseas.

"PeopleSupport provides business process outsourcing (BPO) services from facilities in the Philippines," he points out. "Company personnel handle customer service calls, technical support questions, marketing campaigns and collections. The firm also transcribes voice recordings and captions television content. Services are offered via telephone, e-mail and Web chat. Expedia  and Vonage Holdings  are major customers."

The rest of the article is an analysis of PeopleSupport's stock price. If you want to read the article, here's a link.

On The Vonage VoIP Forum

Vonage Forum Member brodiemac establishes a new Vonage Forum thread entitled, Noise issues with separate wireless router.

First brodiemac includes some basic set-up info. Then he goes on to describe the particular issue he is experiencing.

Roadrunner SB4100 modem --> Vonage RT31P2 --> Computer & Linksys WRT54G wireless router.

"This setup has been working for months now. This past week, I've had to reboot the modem and both modems due to loss of internet access for unknown reasons. Now all of a sudden, I get loud ( and I mean LOUD) static on the phone line," brodiemac explains.

"When I unplug the wireless router (either power or network) the static disappears," he adds. "I have two phones: one is 2.4GHz, the other is 5.8GHz. It's the same problem regardless of which phone is connected. Any ideas why this is happening? I called Vonage and they say the Vonage router is bad and I have to foot the bill for a new one. Not happening."

The answer is supplied by fellow Vonage Forum Member rohr714, who writes:

"When you put the network back together you mated the wrong power supply to the Vonage device or the WRT54G. If necessary, call Vonage to verify the right power supply’s model number."

Next, let's look at a new thread that Vonage Forum Member kjtar gave it the name of, Vonage installation in Tulsa, OK?

"Haven't signed up with Vonage yet, but they won't tell me who installers/technicians are in Tulsa until I do, then they say they'll set up an appointment," kjtar writes. "I'd like to get the information before I commit to sign up. Anyone know who's installing Vonage in the Tulsa area? Would just be for residential use, trying to save money from our Cox "bundled" cable/Internet/telephone bill."

Two answers from fellow Vonage Forum Members, both essentially saying self-install of Vonage is easy.

"Any particular reason you are wanting an installer?," writes rgnok. "I'm in Tulsa, have experience with Vonage / Cox setup, there is not much to it. But, as to your specific question, I don't know who they might use."

And then roscopco writes: "You don't need an installer, very easy to hook up and you can save yourself $100 or whatever they are charging."

Vonage Stock Report

Today on the New York Stock Exchange, Vonage stock closed at $2.15 a share, a drop of  13 cents (-5.70%) from Monday's closing price of  $2.28 a share, but then again that closing price was 3 cents more than the day's lowest trading price for Vonage shares and that was $2.12 a share. Total shares traded on Tuesday came out to be 500,500 shares.

That's what's hot about Vonage today. Check with us tomorrow for our next edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.
