Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

August 17, 2007

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest.

Not a big news day today for Vonage so we'll go straight to two interesting Vonage Forum threads, one about a Caller I.D. issue and the other about adapters used with Vonage.  Finally, we'll check on Vonage's stock price.

On The Vonage VoIP Forum

Incomplete data" with caller ID on some incoming is both the title and subject matter of an older, but recently replied-to Vonage Forum thread that had been started by Vonage Forum Member cjmorning.

He writes in part:

"I've used Vonage for over a year now, never having a problem with caller ID. But about 3 weeks ago, I started getting "incomplete data" on about 1/3 of incoming calls. Anyone else seeing such a problem? Nothing has changed with hardware. The incomplete data appears on all my phones, so it is not a problem with one phone presumably."

A couple of interesting replies have been posted to this thread.

The first of these replies was from fellow Vonage Forum Member tglea:

"Occasionally I have had problems with caller id as well. Just the wrong date and times, never incomplete data. I'm like you, I don't think it is a big enough problem to really waste my time with. The problem has always corrected itself in the past as well. Three weeks does seem like a long time to be having the issue though. Mine usually was only a few days or so. Do the calls show up properly in your online account? What device are you using? Perhaps a recent firmware upgrade may have messed things up."

That had been followed up with some suggestions made in a post by fellow Vonage Forum Member orient_guy, who advised cjmorning to:

"Call Vonage and check if you have the latest firmware. you can also try to move the number to the other port on your device just in case it is the phone port itself not working. you can do this thru your online account:goto add-ons>>move a number. you need to powercycle your device. test the line with a single phone connected to the device (no home wiring).

Then just this morning, new Vonage Forum Member Kirem added this post to the thread:

"I too recently started having this issue. All my phones show "incomplete data" on about 1/2 of my incoming calls. Have you found any solution to this issue? My router is only 3 weeks old, so the firmware shouldn't be that out of date, but I'll try looking into that nonetheless."

Vonage Forum Member Flattop decided to open a new Vonage Forum thread that he calls, No Routing Vonage Device, Just Phone Adapter.

"I decided to give up my Motorola VT2542 and get another router, Airport Extreme," Flattop writes. "Now, I would only use the Vonage phone adapter. However, I would like some help deciding on the phone adapter. I bought the Linksys PAP2 v2.0, but I have to return it because the phone cords do not click/lock in place when inserted. However, I was thinking about getting the D-Link VTA instead of the Linksys PAP2 v2.

"Is one better than the other?," Flattop adds. "If anyone has information about these, please give me your feedback. By the way, Linksys tech support said that the phone cords do not lock/click when inserted. What do you know about that, as well? Your help will be greatly appreciated."

Who better, then, to offer his help then our most frequent poster, Steve48?

"Both the PAP2 and the D-link have good reputations in here," Steve48 wrote, referring of course, to the Vonage Forum. "As for non-clicking phone cords, this is the first that I've heard of it as a generic problem. I'd say the Linksys tech is full of something."

Vonage Stock Report

Today  on the New York Stock Exchange, Vonage stock closed at $2.14 a share, a drop of one cent (-0.47%) from  yesterday's closing price of  $2.15 a share, but then again the closing price today is four cents more than the day's lowest trading price for Vonage shares and that was $2.10 a share. Total shares traded today added up to being 669,500 shares.

That's what's hot about Vonage today. Check with us Monday for our next edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.
