Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

July 30, 2007

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest.

"First of all, I'd like to report that early on Friday, the Vonage Forum earned our 43 millionth page view since we started back on March 2003. Keep those page views coming!

Because there isn't much Vonage news today,  we'll go straight to two Vonage Forum threads, one about the wrong time showing on Vonage caller ID, and a thread with input and advice from a Vonage Forum Member who is thinking of signing up with Vonage.. Finally, we'll update Vonage's stock price.

On The Vonage Voip Forum

Caller ID shows wrong date/time is a Vonage Forum thread started by Vonage Forum Member Jackiem.

"This is not a time zone setting problem- hour and minutes don't match up with any different time zone (i.e. minutes are different- 10:17 might display as 9:45)," Jackiem writes.

"I have the exact same problem here in Montreal, Canada," writes fellow Vonage Forum Member Pat_One. I tried setting back the time/date correctly on my phone, but figured out it was pushed by Vonage. I did not call the tech support yet... any idea, fix?

One of our experts, Darrell_G, advised, "Call (Vonage) tech support...only they can fix it."

Reflecting a theme we see fairly often on the Vonage Forums, a new thread entitled Thinking of going to Vonage has been established by new Vonage Forum Member Daworz.

Daworz writes:

"I have Cable internet and have been thing of going to Vonage. My question is I am not really computer savvy, although i did make my home wireless With a linksys, I talked to a sale's rep yesterday and he told me what i needed (Motorola VT2542 ), and was wondering how much tech savvy you needed to be to install. Thats the only thing really holding me up, That and now some of the problems that i have read? Any info would be Great."

Several answers have been supplied to Daworz' questions.

Let's go through a few of them.

First, navydavy2001 writes:

"Alright, to give you a good indication on what may happen, read the first post in this forum, and give us all of that information. We probably should see your test results, because that could tell us ahead of time if you might see some issues. Specifically, we also need the model number of your Linksys too. We might have some cool options for you, depending on which model it is."

Next comes kdf55, who offered this perspective:

"I have a Linksys wireless in my home. All I did was plug the VT2142 into my wireless router (it has 4 ports) and it works GREAT. I even have my whole house wired Vonage. The thing you have to remember, your Vonage experience will only be as good as your Internet connection."

Next we move on to DentalRep, who, you might say, knows the drill about Vonage setup:

"You will be pleasantly surprised by how easy it is to set up," DentalRep writes. "My mother set up her own Vonage connection and she is not computer literate."

Finally, this from skeighter:

"I totally recommend going with the Motorola VT2542 router and Vonage. The voice quality is excellent and I had my router installed and the house off the landline and wired to the router in under 30 minutes," skeighter writes.

"$30 a month versus $70 for ATT, no contest."

Vonage Stock Report

Monday  on the New York Stock Exchange,  Vonage stock closed at $2.40 a share, which was a decline of 21 cents from Friday's closing price of $2.61 a share, but then again that was eight cents higher than the day's lowest price and that was $2.32 a share.
