Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest.

In the news, we'll come to know about how SunRocket's closure last week has affected Vonage.  Then we'll go straight to two Vonage Forum threads, one about a clicking noise during Vonage calls that may be because of bandwidth settings, and the other thread is about a networking issue.  Finally, we'll update Vonage's stock price.

Vonage Picks Up "many" SunRocket Subscribers

Ryan Kim of the San Francisco Chronicle quotes Vonage spokesman Charles Sahner as saying that the failure of former Vonage competitor SunRocket  has only meant more business for Vonage. 

"In the two days after the announcement, Vonage signed up 11,000 subscribers, many of them old SunRocket users, while call volumes doubled during the same time," Kim writes.

Kim also writes that Sahner said SunRocket failed because it couldn't meet its customer's needs for better features and strong customer support.

"We were the leader from the very beginning and we have that critical mass and the scale," Sahner said. "We helped put (SunRocket) out of business. They had a cheap product and they couldn't compete."

Then, in the same article, Kim quoted a Vonage subscriber by the name of David Libby, who told him that he runs a small public relations firm in Oakland, subscribes to Vonage for his business phone service and said he saves at least $100 a month. "He hopes Vonage and others are able to keep offering the lower rates that allow him to remain competitive," Kim says about Libby.

"I would be very unhappy if Vonage-type companies went away because it would severely limit the growth potential for businesses to connect via the phone," said Libby. "Vonage has been the best friend of small business."

 

On The Vonage Voip Forum

Well, Vonage Forum Member caspe15 isn't hearing "ghosts," but he is hearing clicking on the line during some Vonage calls. Because of that he has decided to open a Vonage Forum thread that he's entitled, Clicking on the line during active calls. VT2142.

"Recently I noticed that I hear clicking while on an active call," caspe15 writes. "This noise does not appear to happen when a call is not in progress. Meaning if I take the phone off the hook and wait until the dial-tone stops, I do not hear the clicking I hear while speaking with someone. The clicking does not follow any kind of pattern. It appears to be mostly random. It is a similar sound as you would hear if another line was picked up and then hung up."

Then in the same post, caspe15 offers Here the results of his Vonage Speed test:

"I have tried several different handsets but the result is the same. There are only 2 phones connected to the line," he then adds. "I have powered down my cable modem and the Vonage router and reboot both. Same result."

Although this thread is still being added to with advice, the first Vonage Forum Member to add a suggested workaround is tglea.

"Try adjusting your bandwidth saver to a different setting and see if the problem goes away," tglea suggests. "I have a different adapter but from day one to now, a year later, I have had the same sound that you're describing. The strange thing is though, I only hear the sound when I use the 50kbps setting. I have never heard it while using the 30 or 90kbps setting.

It seems as though Vonage Forum Member clank787's Local Area Network isn't working right since he's set Vonage up on that network. That's motivation for him to launch a Vonage Forum thread that he has named, LAN not working correctly after Vonage is hooked up.

"One of my computers will not share files with the other two," clank787 writes. "My network is setup like this: Cable Modem->Router->Computers 2, 3, and Vonage modem. Vonage modem->Computer 1. Computer 1 cannot share files with 2 and 3. My Vonage modem is V-tech model 8100-2."

Steve48, who is our most frequent poster so far, offers one of his expert answers.

He writes:

"The problem is that computer 1 is on one sub-net and 2 and 3 are on another. If you have a free port on the router, plug computer 1 in there. The only disadvantage to that is that you won't be able to log on to the Vonage box without moving the connection back, but you probably won't need to do that very often.

"If you don't have a free port, then take a look at this thread and the things it references, then get back to us."

Vonage Stock Report

Monday on the New York Stock Exchange,  Vonage stock closed at $2.75 a share, which was a decline of one cent (-0.36 %) from Friday's closing price of $2.76 a share, but then again that was 15 cents higher than the day's lowest price and that was $2.60 a share. Total Vonage shares traded on Monday turned out  to be 1,172,600 shares.
