Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest.

In the news, we'll read once again about an offer Vonage is extending to former SunRocket customers, and will come to learn when Vonage will announce its latest quarterly financial results.  Then we'll go straight to two Vonage Forum threads, one asking about an equipment recommendation and another about stuttering ring tones on Vonage calls. Finally, we'll update Vonage's stock price.

Vonage Has Offer For SunRocket Customers

Vonage says it has an offer for former customers of SunRocket, a VoIP service that went out of business on Monday.

Vonage is offering a way for SunRocket customers to transition their phone number over to Vonage, and also receive the added benefit of two months free service. Customers receive this benefit when they sign up for the U.S. Residential Premium Unlimited Plan. Vonage said it can transfer qualified phone numbers from SunRocket to Vonage at no charge.

SunRocket customers interested in this offer can receive more information by calling 1-888-510-1820.

Vonage Schedules Latest Quarterly Financial Announcement

Vonage will report its financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2007 on Thursday, August 9, 2007. The earnings release will be available on Vonage's Investor Relations website at .

Management will host a webcast discussion of the quarter's results on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at 10:00 AM Eastern Time. To participate, please dial (800) 810-0924 approximately ten minutes prior to the call. International callers should dial (913) 981-4900. A replay will be available approximately two hours after the conclusion of the call until midnight August 23, 2007, and may be accessed by dialing (888) 203-1112. Vonage Forum Member thegame opens a Vonage Forum thread that he's gone about naming, UTSTARCOM F1000 or F3000..??? I Need Help..

He writes:

Good day i am a Vonage customer. already I have the LINKSYS PAP phone adapter, setup in my house..

I am planning on going overseas in a couple of days, and i would like to know which is better the F1000 or the F3000.. i would also like to know what can the F3000 do that the F1000 cant do..

Will the F3000 work with vonage, because i called Vonage today and they told me that the it will not work.. that the only product that will work is the F1000... I've heard some people say it works.. but i dont know why Vonage says the F3000 will not work with them.. maybe they want us to buy the F1000 that they have in stock or something..

I need to know what can F3000 do that the F1000 cant do. Need to know the features etc...

Which can last longer.. Which has better signal.. Which has better volume. which finds WIFI hotspots faster.. etc.

Answering is Vonage Forum Member howiewifi, who writes:

"Which is "better" depends on what you want to do. The F3000 is a clamshell style phone with a color display and polyphonic ringer. The F1000 is a bar type basic phone with a black and white display and a very basic ringer. The WiFi and DSP set of the F3000 and F1000G (both sold retail) are the same, so performance will be close to the same, with the exception that the F1000 battery life may be longer since it has a bigger battery and smaller display. If you just want a basic phone, the F1000 is a good choice.

The next question is how you will use the phone with Vonage. The F1000G and F3000 are both available via retail, but these are NOT Vonage branded. This means that they will work with a Vonage soft phone account, but NOT with a Vonage primary account.

The alternative, which is the only WiFi phone that works with a Vonage primary account is the F1000 (not the F1000G), with Vonage branding. This is not available anywhere other than from Vonage directly - they never put it into retail outlets. I am not sure of the Vonage policies on selling a Vonage branded F1000 without a new account (they once did but seemingly now don't - you'll need to check with Vonage if you want one).

I personally travel with an F3000 as well as a Netgear WGR101 travel router - for hotels that have LAN connections but no WiFi. The set up works very well."

A new thread by Vonage Forum Member ijourneaux asks a question that I have seen posed here awhile back. But given the continued interest, I thought I would highlight this thread.

The thread is entitled, Multiple Beeps before dialtone.

Starting the thread with a post, ijourneaux asks, 

"When My phone does work, I get multiple beeps 5 or more before I finally get a dialtone. My wife is complaining that this results in misdialed phone numbers if she starts dialing before the dialtone appears. Is this normal and is there anything I can do about it. I don't think is was always like this but everyone is sensitized due to unrelated network problems. I think I have the network issues behind me but it could still be an issue."

Our most frequent poster, Steve48, supplies the answer:

"That's a stutter tone. It indicates that you have phone mail on the Vonage phone mail system. Accessing the phone mail should clear it. To keep it from happening again, log on to your account and disable phone mail."

After reading Steve48's answer, ijourneaux responds: 

"Thanks for the quick response. It is good to know that it is normal. As I said, with the network problems I have been having, everyone, including myself , was blaming that."

Vonage Stock Report

Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange,  Vonage stock closed at $2.94 a share, which was a decline of two cents (-0.68%) from Tuesday's closing price of $2.96 a share, but then again that was one cent higher than the day's lowest price and that was $2.93 a share. Total Vonage shares traded on Wednesday came in to be 614,800 shares.
