Vonage says it has an offer for former customers of SunRocket, a VoIP service that went out of business on Monday.

Vonage is offering a way for SunRocket customers to transition their phone number over to Vonage, and also receive the added benefit of two months free service, waived activation and free shipping. Customers receive this benefit when they sign up for the U.S. Residential Premium Unlimited Plan. Vonage said it can transfer qualified phone numbers from SunRocket to Vonage at no charge.

On The Vonage Voip Forum

Vonage Forum Member deschodt, who has Verizon FIOS broadband Internet service, decides to start a Vonage Forum thread and is calling it, Any idea why I must reset the router every day ? (FIOS?).

Deschodt writes,

"I've used Vonage for years now, and was generally happy with the service, only needing a new router once under warranty..

Lately though, I need to unplug/replug my router practically daily to get the phone "light" again ! I think it might have to do with FIOS - I can't say for sure but it did not happen that frequently with cable before... In doubt, I bought a new Vonage capable router for $30 and swapped, but it did the same thing that very day...

Do you think it could be a setting on the FIOS modem that triggers disconnections like this ? It's not predictable either, sometimes it goes for a 5 days without a glitch."

Steve48 answers, suggesting an Uninterruptible Power Supply:

"It does sound like some kind of issue with your FIOS service. However, are you sure that you're not getting power glitches? An UPS would take care of that."

emac writes:

"Just because you have FIOS does not mean you have can't have issues

Also please tell us if you have an Action Tec MI424WR that Verizon gave you, they can have issues with Voip but i can give you instructions on how to fix the issues if you have on of them."

Then deschodt comes back with a post answering both Steve48 and emac:

"Steve, no power glitches.... The FIOS source has its own built in UPS, the Vonage router is on a regular socket but that has not changed, really....

"Emac, My network setup? FIOS router in garage, it's indeed the MI424WR - good guess - I'll happily take instructions. Other than that, one ethernet cable from the actiontek to the Vonage router, and for internet, I use those ethernet over power line adapters... That way phone and internet are not both dependant on the power sockets to function, and troubleshooting is easier...."

It seems that because new Vonage Forum Member litlginsu can't access the Internet when his Vonage is use, he opened a Vonage Forum thread giving it the title of, No internet when phone is in use.

"My Internet connection drops off completely when my phone is in use," litlginsu writes. "I am not sure if I am missing a piece of equipment (i.e. a router) or if there is something else I need to do (i.e. somehow distribute my bandwidth between the Internet and phone)?"

Litlginsu then completes his thread-opening post by adding his Vonage connection information. By the way, you can learn what information you'll want to include by going to the sticky post, What to post when having technical trouble with Vonage....

OK so then fellow Vonage Forum Member trekologer makes a post in which he asks a question of litlginsu and offers him some advice as well:

"What kind of phone are you using? Is it a 2.4ghz cordless? How are your computers connected to your Airport router? Wireless?

If you are using a 2.4ghz cordless phone and the computers are connected wirelessly, that is your problem. The phone and wireless network are using the same radio frequency. Switch to a corded or 5.8ghz phone."

And then hey guess what. Seems to have worked, as litlginsu replied, "Well.. trekologer.. you are a total genius! I plugged in a corded phone and that fixed the problem...! That was so unbelievably simple.. thanks!"

Vonage Stock Report

Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange,  Vonage stock closed at $2.96 a share, which was a rise of one cent (+0.34 %)from  Monday's closing price of $2.95 a share, but then again that was six cents higher than the day's lowest price and that was $2.90 a share. Total Vonage shares traded on Tuesday came to be 536,300 shares.
