Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

July 12, 2007

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest.

In the news, we'll learn about Vonage's new chief of public relations. Then, we'll go straight to a Vonage Forum thread about setup issues with the IP 8100, and another thread which is about multiple Vonage adapters on one account and if that's OK.  Finally, we'll update Vonage's stock price.

In The News

Vonage Appoints New Head of Public Relations

According to an article released by www.voip-news.com, Vonage has announced a new Vice President of Public Relations and Communications today, Karen Cleeve. With 15 years of p.r. experience for major companies as well as public relations agencies, Cleeve will be overseeing the consumer and Vonage employee communications programs. You'll probably see her name on online and newspaper articles where a response from Vonage is needed or requested.

On The Vonage Voip Forum

Model IP 8100-1 not connecting to internet, Set up problem. is a new Vonage Forum thread that has been started by Vonage Forum Member ZODI.

ZODI writes:

"My Location is India . Vonage Model IP 8100 -1 Cable Internet. i am having problems connecting to the internet my ISP uses Mac address locking also i have Static IP , when i tested it at my friends place which was Dynamic IP it was connected but i cant connect it somehow at my own place with Mac address released too. My ISP is kinda (new) in this matter and he said he cant help me so , is there a way i can connect my device. Please help me out."

Vonage Forum Member jimz responds:

"Connect VTech->PC go to IE and type in on the address bar 192.168.15.1 You'll see a VTech page. username=VTech pass=VTech under Basic select ISP Connection at the left side.

Click the copy button near DHCP Client List. Make sure it is now the same with the MAC address.

Select Apply. exit power cycle VTech then connect to modem hope this helps."

Vonage Forum Member eyendall comes up with a new Vonage Forum thread that he has decided to name, Two Adapters, One Account.

He writes:

"I have a Vonage account. I want to have a second telephone adapter to take with me when traveling using the same Vonage account and telephone number. Can I do this?

"Related question; I want to set up in Egypt. Would it be best to buy a Vonage adapter in the UK (220v)? Would this adapter work with a US/Canada-based account.

The most detailed reply to this question is from fellow Vonage Forum Member emac.

And then emac writes:

"A couple of things that may need to be clarified:

1 You can have more than one Vonage device on your account but only one will work at a time if you only have one phone number. Many people do this so that they can just carry a VPhone or a phone adapter rather than one of the Vonage router/ata

2. You can not use a device bought in another country on a US account (this includes one bought in Canada). This has nothing to do with the voltage issue it is due to a system restriction that is built in to the Vonage network.

3. If you get another device and do not want to add a line to your acct i would get one at a retail store and add it to your account on the Vonage website. Then in your web account there is a move a line section that allows you to move your phone number between the devices at your leisure and you do not have to call Vonage to move the device. Just one note that moving the number between device takes up to 30 minutes to update in the Vonage Network"
