Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

July 3, 2007

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest.

First of all, some good news. Yesterday, we registered our 42,000th member of the Vonage Forums. Our 42,000th Member is nicadylan. He's already started posting. Welcome to the Vonage Forum, nicadylan!

In the news, we'll learn about a major U.S. retail chain that will be carrying Vonage products.  Then, we'll go straight to a Vonage Forum thread about resetting the Motorola VT2542 to its factory defaults, and a thread from a member who wishes he had a "hang up." Then we'll update Vonage's stock price.

In The News

Major U.S. Department Store Chain to Carry Vonage Products

Vonage says products and voice service will be sold through the Midwest U.S. department store chain Meijer.

Meijer will offer several Vonage-enabled products in all of its 180 stores including the V-Tech IP 8100 5.8GHz cordless phone system, the D-Link VTA adapter and a D-Link wireless router with Vonage service.

Meijer will also sell the V-Phone, a USB flash drive loaded with Vonage's service.

On The Vonage Voip Forum

Vonage Forum member ojai opens a thread entitled, How do you reset a VT2542 to factory defaults?

"About a month ago, I exchanged my old school VT1005 from 2004 for the VT2542 (which includes a wireless access point)," ojai writes. "I configured and promptly forgot the password I'd set for the 'router' user. Does anyone know how to reset this device to factory defaults?

"The user guide just says leave it unplugged for 30 seconds but that doesn't work," ojai explains. "Supposedly, the 'reset' button on the back is for re-establishing connectivity. Does anyone have any suggestions?"

Well, fellow Vonage Forum Member Darrell_G does.

"To reset the Motorola VT2542 to factory defaults, take a sharp pointed object and press and hold the reset button for 15 seconds," Darrell_G writes.

Then ojai followed up with a post thanking Darrell_G.

Can't hangup when leaving a message is a new Vonage Forum thread and it is started by Vonage Forum Member jjpslc.

'Here's a weird problem: whenever I leave a message for someone (say at their work or home voicemail) when I hang up the phone after leaving a message, Vonage will ring back the line almost immediately," jjpslc writes. "When I pick up, the other person's voicemail prompt is still there.

"Why won't Vonage simply hang up the line like you would expect?," jjpslc asks.

"Apparently the correct disconnect signal isn't getting sent," answers our most frequent poster, Steve48.  I think you'll need customer service to help with this one. After, of course, you've tried re-booting everything.
