In the news, we'll learn that Vonage CFO John S. Rego will speak at the 2007 Bear Stearns Communications Conference. Then we would proceed to the Vonage Forum, where a member raises an issue on problems with Wind stream customers. Finally there is the Vonage Stock Price update for the day.



In The News

Vonage CFO To Address At The 2007 Bear Stearns Communications Conference

Vonage Chief Financial Officer, John S. Rego will speak at the 2007 Bear Stearns Technology/Communications/Internet Conference. As reported in the online PRNewswire, Vonage Holdings Corporation had announced on 6 June that the Vonage CFO would address the conference scheduled to be held on Monday, June 11, 2007 at 2:15 PM ET. The venue of the event is the Grand Hyatt Hotel at New York city.

A live presentation of the Communications Conference would be Web cast, through the Vonage Investor Relations website at http://ir.vonage.com/. The web cast could be heard on Windows Media Player or RealPlayer. Once the web cast of the conference is over it would be replayed. Starting from June 11 the replay will be accessible for two weeks.

Brillo started a new thread titled," Problems with Wind stream customers."

Brillo, a new Forum member, puts forth the problem as," Vonage has been solid for me for the past year. However, there is one caller who I constantly have issues with. I get through to this line perhaps 50 percent of the time (oftentimes, the phone rings just once with no answer). When I am lucky enough to get through to this line, the receiver hears me on a delay of 2-3 seconds. It's a mess."

He continued with the thread," I have looked on the forums over the past week, looking for answers, but have yet to find one. The caller told me he had service through Wind stream, and I thought this might at the core of the issue. After doing some research online, I think we might be onto something. Can anyone provide some expertise? Again, this is the only phone call I make via Vonage that gives me trouble."

Tglea, a Vonage Forum Senior, added in," You could very well be on to something. There is another thread that was just started yesterday with essentially the same problem. http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic19684.html  That poster has described the same delay problem only when calling one customer who happens to use Wind stream. Perhaps you could post there and combine this into one thread so that you both can see any advice in the same place."

Mundy5, who has been rated as the Vonage member of the Week, joined in," I've read the other post and it appears to be a perplexing problem. Wind stream appears to be an ordinary telecommunications company that does phone, DSL, and Digital TV. So my assumption is that their phone lines are not your typical AT& T type phone line. They might be using Voip which would then explain any delays in communications."

He added," Why don't you call them up and ask them? That would be the only explanation I can think of right now. I believe increasing the call quality as the other poster said will do no good. It would only increase the delay as it would increase the amount of data that needs to be transmitted which would only cause more delay. If it is indeed wind stream that is using VoIP, then the problem lies there since you report that all other calls are working fine. This tells me that it's not a Vonage problem."

Tglea replied," Your post had me doing some thinking about some call problems that I have sometimes. I have two people that I call quite frequently and I always seem to have problems when talking with them. Either I have a hard time hearing them or they complain that I am breaking up. Here is the interesting fact, at least for me, they both use Cox Voip service."

He continued," Sometimes when I finish a bad conversation with one of those people, I call a friend with a different provider immediately afterwards. He always tells me that it sounds great and I have no problems on my end either. So at least from my experience, your comment sounds very true. I wonder why that is though. I would think that if I am calling another Voip number that the quality would be better since there is no routing to the POTS network involved."

Steve48 joined in," It would be interesting to try calling all of these "problem contacts" with non-Vonage phones to see if the situation is any different then."

Igi, a new Forum member joined in," Don't assume that because the other subscriber is on VoIP, there is no PSTN connection involved!"

Diggert replied the thread," Hello all. I am so glad I found this thread. I am located outside Charlotte NC in Matthews NC. This little area near Charlotte was serviced by Alltel (now Wind stream), not Bell South as is Charlotte. About 2 years ago, I switched to Vonage. No complaints I love it."

He added," But in recent weeks, here are the symptoms. When calling a Wind stream customer's phone number we are experiencing the same delay, choppy audio, etc. that others are mentioning. However, the connection to those numbers is bad mostly when outbound from Vonage. Inbound calls from those numbers are much better."

He continued the thread," Now here is a strange symptom, the problem seems to exist even if a former Alltel customer has switched to an internet Voip service, for example Time Warner digital phone. So far, in recent weeks we are experiencing severe problems calling anyone who was Alltel in Matthews NC, Stallings NC, Indian Trail NC, Mooresville NC, etc. Problems include sometimes the ringing tone stopping after 1 ring or sometimes not happening at all."

He concluded," I have been working with Vonage on this now for well over a week and as far as I know, they have not figured this one out yet. Tried different calls to suspect numbers tonight and they seemed to be working ok. The guy I have been talking to at Vonage is going to try to find out if their engineers are on to something."

On Wednesday at the New York Stock Exchange, Vonage stock closed at $3.03a share, a fall of -0.66% from Tuesday's which was$3.05 a share. The total volume of Vonage shares traded was 1,122,900 .
