Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

May 31, 2007

By Daniel Connor

Today in the news we will come to know about the distribution partnership between Vonage and DBL Distributing and would then proceed to the forum where a forum member starts a discussion on DLink VWR can't share printer to wireless clients. Finally we have the Vonage Stock Price Update.

In The News

Vonage and DBL Enter a New Distribution Partnership

Vonage and DBL Distributing Inc. have entered into a partnership over the distribution of the Vonage enabled devices. This will facilitate the Vonage enabled devices to be sold at DBL's more than 32000 retail account locations.

With this distribution partnership DBL would market the Vonage enabled Voip products and accessories. The retailers would receive marketing kits comprising of merchandising signage, training materials as well as point of sales displays that will help them market the new Vonage products. These Vonage enabled Internet telephony products and accessories allow users to connect and make calls through a high-speed Internet Connection.

DBL customers who take part in the program earn an activation commission for each of the device sold of Vonage that results in Vonage account activation. Participating dealers need to become a Vonage or a DBL authorized dealer as a pre-requisite.

Commenting on the partnership, Henry Chiarelli, the chief merchandising officer of DBL said, "As a leading distributor of consumer electronics among independent retailers, we're always looking for services that add profit potential and increase foot traffic to a dealer's business. We believe Vonage and VoIP- related products are two major components of consumer demand now and long-term."

In The Vonage Voip Forum

Valenshek started a new thread titled, "DLink VWR can't share printer to wireless clients."

Valenshek, who is a new Forum member, put forth his problem as, "My old Motorola VT1005 died so I just recently bought a new DLink VWR. I was previously using a DLink DI624 wireless router but that was having some issues as well, so I figured I'd just get a wireless router/VOIP box all in one. Contrary to a lot of the postings here I really haven't had much trouble with my VWR, except for one really weird problem. Let me first explain my setup: 1 Windows XP PC connected to one of the LAN ports. Firewall is turned off, and a printer connected to this PC and several folders are shared on the network with Windows file/printer sharing 2 Windows XP laptops connecting wirelessly."

He continued, "The file and printer sharing has always worked fine. But once I changed to the VWR, I can no longer print from the laptops to the shared printer on my PC. The file sharing still works though, I can read from and write to the shared folders on the PC from the laptops. If I plug either of the laptops into the LAN ports on the VWR and turn off the wireless on the laptop, I can print. The printing doesn't work only when the laptops are wirelessly connected. Has anyone else had this problem, or knows what to do to fix this?"

Dmoosh replied to the above thread by saying, "I am having the exact same issue. Have you found a fix for this?"

Snewell, a new forum member joins in the conversation, "Same issue here. Moved over to the VWR and wireless printing from W2K to a Brother 2070N stopped working. A Mac and a WinXP machine connected to the VWR work just fine. Any help?"

Dmoosh replied, "This appeared to be an issue that no one (either DLink or Vonage) wanted to admit to or bother to fix. After numerous hours on the phone with Tech Support from both the problem was not resolved. DLinks level 2 supported ended our conversation with "we don't support network printing or file sharing with any of our wireless routers"...boy that was interesting way to promote future sales. Vonage ultimately offered to ship me the new Motorola which immediately allowed me to print via my network again. DLink is junk, don't waste your time. For what it's worth, I also had great luck with the Linksys until its untimely demise. The Motorola seems great so far with absolutely no issues and great voice quality."

Obbyone, a new Forum member concluded, "I have three computers in the network... one with Vista and the other ones are XP. Vista works and fails sometimes to send a job to the printer, the other ones always fail if connecting wirelessly... nobody in Vonage have a real answer, but it's my guessing that the problem is definitely the crappy router, Period!"

Vonage Stock Report

On Wednesday at the New York Stock Exchange, Vonage stock closed at $3.15 a share; a fall of -2.17% from Tuesday's which was $3.22a share. The total volume of Vonage shares traded was 583,500.
