Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

Today in the news we shall learn what New York Times technology columnist David Pogue predicts and then go straight to the Vonage forum where a new Vonage user needs some information on 220AC power supply. As usual, we will conclude with the Vonage stock price update.

In The News

Free Calls over Landline Due to Vonage Predicted

VoIP may soon make landline phone calls available for free to the consumers, believes New York Times technology columnist David Pogue. The Holmdel, New Jersey based Vonage Holding Corporation has made the VoIP technology widely popular among the end-users, making the term almost a household name. If Pogue's predictions come true, much of the credit will go to Vonage.

Pogue, a CBS correspondent, author and tech-columnist at NY Times had made the technology predictions last week where he said, "Landline phone calls will be free, because of VoIP such as Vonage, Skype and Others."

While making a presentation at the GTC, David Pogue said that, at present one can plug in to an existing phone line with a telephone number which could be attached to a cable modem. These services could be had at stipulated rates, often without any tax or fee, to make unlimited phone calls. Once his predictions come true, calling a landline number over the Internet would become free.

The VoIP services from Telecom giants like Vonage and the others could enable the users to receive the telephone calls from anywhere in the world, free of cost. The current user base of Vonage exceeds 2.4 million, and with phone calls becoming even cheaper, the user base will grow manifold within a short span.

In The Vonage VoIP Forum

Madhoun started a new thread titled, '220VAC Power Supply'

Madhoun put up his query as, "Hello everyone, I have just opened my brand new Vonage, I plugged it to a 220VAC, it didnt work at all... Then, I realised that I have connected to the wrong voltage.. However, I got an adapter 220v to 110, 50 Hz, 23W .. I thought it wouldnt light any LED, but the case is like the following, I connect the device to the power outlet, I get a green LED on .. 5 seconds, this LED light fades away !! So, does anyone know what the problem is.. ? How can I solve it please ?"

Noct replied, "might have nuked it"

Madhoun replied quickly saying, "And .. what shall I do !?"

Roscopco tried to help saying, "How did you plug it into a 220 outlet, those plugs are different unless you used an adapter and it didn't have a converter on it. I guess you can wait until you get back to North America and try it out."

Madhoun said, "what does that mean !? Is there something like a fuse which I can change easily ?"

Rosopco again said, "What country are you in? North America outlets are not 220. I have a converter that I take with me to Europe that has the correct plug to attach to the device I want to use and then converts it to 220."

Modhoun replied saying, "Am not in North America ! I want know what to do with this problem ! how can I have it fixed !? someone tells me guys !"

Skin06 joined the forum saying, "Madhoun, I presume u are in UK? The adaptor on your vonage device should automatically be set to 220/240V, I have never had to change the voltage with any of my Vonage devices, the plug/adaptor automatically selects voltage. I would suggest that you call Vonage and put this problem to them, surely they will be able to help you.....if the device is faulty then they will replace it free of charge as ur still in warranty if your a new customer. Their number is 0800 008 6000."

Xnewuser said, "What model adapter did you get? Is the power supply a multi-voltage type, i.e., 100-240v 50/60 Hz? (Check the label.) Can you test the output of your power supply with a voltmeter? Can you try another power supply? If the power supply is putting out the correct voltage, your adapter must have problems and Vonage should help you. If the power supply isn't putting out the right voltage AND it is a multi-voltage type, Vonage shold still be able to help you. If the power supply is not a multi-voltage type, be prepared to buy another set-up."

Vonage Stock Report

On Monday, at the New York Stock Exchange, Vonage stock closed at $3.18 a share. This is a rise of 0.06 cents (1.92%) from that of Friday's when the stock closed at $3.12 a share. The day's lowest price was $3.11 and the total number of Vonage share traded was, 669,600.
