Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

Today in the news we shall read about the changes Vonage is about to make in Digital Media and then we will go straight to the forum where a member is shifting home and wants some information on the 2meg DSL. Finally there is the Vonage stock price update.

In The News

According to a Reportlinker.com article, Vonage Holdings Corporation is all set to initiate changes in the Digital Media Market. Most of the VoIP providers, including Vonage, and the media industry are on the verge of massive changes. The new developments in the broadband technology pioneered by innovative companies like the Vonage and consumer electronics are believed to be the primary reasons for the change.

A Digital Media Market usually gets formed with the convergence of telecom, media and Information Technology.

The Digital Media Series, a compilation of several reputed publications on digital media, examines the global digital media market, which includes an in depth analysis of the market and its recent trend of growth and development. It is believed that the series is intended to make the readers aware of current market trends and to find out probable market developments, which are concerned with the emerging Digital Media. Vonage, which has brought the VoIP to the masses at affordable rates and has made the technology popular, will play greater role in the coming days for the development of Digital Media.

Some of the changes that are to be introduced through the cable based broadband networks, are all set to move into the triple play models, the voice delivering services and the data and video services. Vonage and other reputed companies including AOL, MSN, Google, eBay/Skype, and Yahoo have been eyeing for the changes in the Digital Media Market.

In The Vonage VoIP Forum

A new Vonage associate, Immersion, started a new thread titled, 'Moving to 2meg DSL, is it enough for 4 phone lines at once?

He puts his query as, "Hello, I'm moving to a new house soon and the DSL there is supposed to be 2meg (highest they have). Currently I'm running 3 phone lines and 1 fax line on 11meg cable. So it will be quite a drop in speed once I move. I'm just concerned that the lines will function properly on that lower speed. What do you think? Thanks for the help!"

Darrell_G, the Vonage Forum Master replied, "The 2meg you reference is for the download speed. What is the upload speed?"

Immersion again says, "Ok, I just spoke with the company (Frontier) and they said 320 kpbs upload speed."

Darrell_G replied at this saying, "Vonage recommends 90kbps of upload speed. When you state you have 3 phone lines, do you mean 3 seperate phone lines or 3 phones for the same line? If the latter is the case you're fine."

Immersion again said, "I have two Motorola boxes with two lines in each box."

Tglea, a Forum Junior, concluded with some solution saying, "Short answer is yes you will most likely have problems if all your equipment is set to the default settings (bandwidth saver), you don't have a QOS router or standalone QOS device and you are trying to use all of the phone lines and the fax line at the same time. As Darell_G pointed out, 90kbps is the recommended upload speed for each phone line and you will potentially be using 4 lines at once. Obviously you won't be using the fax all the time but you would need to have 360kbps upload just for your Vonage equipment. That doesn't even take into consideration bandwidth for your computer(s) or overhead."

He continued, " The first thing I would suggest is lowering the bandwidth for each line in your online acct. from 90 to 30kbps. Personally, I use 30kbps all the time and the only difference I can notice is that the volume is not quite as loud when using 90kbps but the quality is still good so I just raise the volume on my handset and all is well. That is kind of a basic answer based on the info that you gave. Keep in mind though, that you will be cutting it real close just with your Vonage equipment. How many computers will be using the network at the same time? What kind of router or QOS device are you using? Do you frequently use all three lines at the same time?"

Vonage Stock Report

On Wednesday, at New York Stock Exchange, Vonage stock closed at $3.06 a share. This is a dip of 0.10 cents (3.16%) from that of Tuesday's closing price when the Vonage stock closed at $3.16 a share. The day's lowest price was $3.05 and the total number of Vonage shares traded is 917,285.
