Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

In the news section we will learn that Vonage is testing its compliance system and would then go straight to the Forum where a member wants to get some information on the broken Vtech IP. We will further scroll down for Vonage stock price update.

In The News

Vonage ratifies compliance system with FBI

Vonage Holdings Corporation is testing its compliance system regarding the law-enforcement by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to Spokeswoman Brooke Schulz.

Stephen Lawson of computerworld.com informs that a deadline was issued against the U.S. broadband and VOIP providers on May14th, in which, the service providers were asked to prove that they were fit to accommodate the law-enforcement wire traps.

The Federal Communications Commission, in a statute issued in 2005, asked the Broadband Internet Service Providers (ISP) and Voice over internet protocol (VOIP) service carriers, which operate through the public telephone network connections, comply with a wiretap access law.

The broadband and VOIP providers had to send the FCC within March 12, in compliance with the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act, (CALEA). It was by May 14th, that the broadband and the VoIP service providers had to set up a system which allows monitoring or have to hire an outside company for the purpose.

In The Vonage VoIP Forum

Tipsy13 a Vonage Forum Associate started a new forum titled, 'Broken Vtech IP 8100-1' She had a volley of questions, which she puts as, "hey guys, i own a vtech IP 8100-1 phone and recently i just wont turn on no matter what i do..the in use LED lights up whenever i turn on the wireless phone but the ready LED doesnt light up..i think the hardware is to be blamed for this and not my ISP..the wireless phone works but the base unit is the one that's malfunctioning..

so here's my question:

1. what should i do to address this problem, should i call vonage?oh by the way i live here in the philippines..

2. if i get a new base unit, how can i make it work?

3. i dont think the warranty shall apply because considering the fact that i live way out here in the philippines i cant send it to the states again so i asked an experienced technician to look at it..it looks tampered already, the screws and the sides of the base unit were forced open..will vonage still accept it?

4. if we buy a new unit, can i just configure it so it would know our own phone number and connect to the vonage network?"

She continued saying, "anybody there who can help?"

Darrell_G, wrote, "By all means contact Customer Service and let them troubleshoot the issues you're having with the device. If the device is defective, they may offer to replace it if it's under warranty or not. If the device has been tampered with, I'm almost certain you will have to foot the bill for a new device.

If you buy a new device at a retail store, all you have to do is go to vonage.com and activate the new device with the link "Bought it at a store" that is provided on the Vonage home page. Follow and complete all the prompts then the new device will be added to your account and ready for use."

Bmerdinian answered, "The device you have to buy, it can't be from another company other than Vonage, what i meant is, i can get the Wifi phone for 25$ but they will not register the MAC address, because they already have their stock in the market, i.e. Future shop, Best Buy or even online. So, you have to buy a new Device that they can track the MAC address for it, then you can goto www.vonage.com or .ca press on Retail Activations the blue one on the right middle page and register (add) the new device. Good luck if you can't do it then you are stuck with the 0/10 Cx service tell them i say hi"

Vonage Stock Report
