Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

Today in the news section we will learn about the popularity of Vonage among every VoIP users. On the forum we will discuss a router an adapter issue and then would go straight to the stock market updates.

In The News

Vonage Still a Darling among VoIP Users

With the US telecommunications and VoIP services industry becoming more competitive, Vonage, the pioneering VoIP company, remains to be the most preferred choice among the VoIP users. Vonage (NYSE: VG) was among the earliest companies that has brought Voice over IP (VoIP) services or Internet phone calls to the Internet users and has succeeded itself in making the acronym a household name. It is the most economical Internet telephone service that has given Vonage its distinct identity among its subscribers.

Larry Magid of CBS News has made a comparative study of the services offered by Vonage with that of another service provider which shows that while Vonage, in its unlimited service plan, also includes free calls to landlines in France, Ireland, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, similar service from the other is limited to domestic calling and calls outside the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico comes under charged calls. The basic call forwarding facility of Vonage, where a subscriber can forward his Vonage number to another number, allows callers reach the subscriber even when he or she is away from home or office phone.

With the more sophisticated SimulRing service of Vonage, subscribers can receive calls automatically and simultaneously to their Vonage line and as many as 5 additional lines. The call can be received from the first phone that has been picked up. The SimulRing service is extremely beneficial for Vonage subscribers that allow them to get calls to their home or office numbers as well as to their cell phone, home phone or a vacation phone. Subscribers can instantly configure and re-configure the service through the Vonage website. This service is also offered by the other and features simultaneous rings up to 3 phone lines. A unique feature of Vonage’s service is that subscribers’ calls are routed to another number in case their Internet connections are down. Larry, being a long subscriber of Vonage, is continuing to avail VoIP services from the New Jersey-based company. While Vonage has many reasons to be admired by the larger VoIP user community, the company is facing greater competition in the burgeoning VoIP industry, including cable operators.

Roger Cheng of The Wall Street Journal Online is of the opinion that wireless strength and the strategy of bundling multiple services together will help the companies increase their customer base. With Jeffrey A. Citron, who founded Vonage Holding Inc. seven years ago, taking over as CEO, the company is gearing to become a leader in the industry. Citron had been the public face for the company since the company was founded in January, 2001.

Spam33 starts a new thread with the title ‘Reprogram Router and Phone Adapter’.

He states his problem as, “I apologize if this is a topic that's been covered multiple times. I've been surfing the forum for about an hour and can't seem to find anything on it. I have 3 lines on my Vonage account. L1 & L2 connect through a Linksys WRTP54G. L3 connects through a D-Link VTA. What I'd like to do is reprogram the D-Link so it is used as the connection for L2 & L3. The Linksys is only used for L1. Any thoughts?”

Natehoy, the Vonage Forum MVM, was the first person to reply this thread. He said, “If they are all on the same account, you can move your lines around from port to port or adapter to adapter easily. Log in to your account, and click on the "ADD-ONS" section, then click on the "Move A Number" link on the upper right.” Spam33 immediately replied, “Wow, that was pretty easy. Next question, is it possible to have a phone line on 2 devices? I would like to have L3 (the fax line) on both devices. Any way to do that?” Natehoy again said, “Sorry, no. You can move them back and forth, but each phone/fax line can only be on one port at a time. You can set up an extra line and SimulRing them.”

Spam 33 had something more to ask. He said, “One final question, and then I'm done. Can I buy another D-Link VTA and have one line on each device? Example... L1 on D-Link #1 L2 on D-Link #2 L3 on Linksys” Natehoy confidently replied, “Sure. There's a section under "Retail Activation" for "Add this device to my account". You won't get any rebates for the purchase of the device, as you are not setting up a new line, but you can add the device pretty easily, then move lines freely about within the account. Disclaimer: I only have one device, but I've heard of lots of people doing this...”

Spam33 after few hours replied gladly, “Awesome, thanks for the quick responses NateHoy!”
