Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

‘In The News’ section we will learn about the plans that the new Vonage CEO will focus on to achieve greater profitability. On the forum we will come across two problems addressed by new forum members and conclude with the daily Vonage stock price update.

In The News

Citron returns as CEO, poised for greater profitability

The new CEO of Vonage Holding Inc, Jeffrey A. Citron, is planning for a less aggressive marketing campaign that would enable the company to offer greater benefits to its customers in return as well as increase its profit margins. According to the CEO, the company would frame its marketing campaign in such a way that its customer base becomes sufficiently strong, retaining the rising trend of company profitability.

Mr. Citron was appointed as the new interim Chairman of Vonage Holding Inc. on Thursday. Bidding farewell to Mike Snyder, the former CEO; Citron said, “ Mike has made valuable contributions to the growth of our business and we will miss him. We thank him and wish him well in his future endeavors.”

On The Vonage VoIP Forum

Lucite, a new forum member, has started a thread with the title, ‘Default Static IP of the Motorola VT2142.’ There was immediate solution to his problem from one of the members.

Lucite puts up his problem as, “Short version of my question: Do you have a Motorola VT2142? Can you please login to the admin panel and tell me what IP it has stated as the default when select to use a static IP (instead of DHCP) - it should be something in the form of 20.X.X.X or 24.X.X.X.”

He adds “Long version of my question: Yesterday I changed my Motorola VT2142 from DHCP to Static IP using the default IP and didn;t write down the number. I then went over to a friend's house and switched my laptop's IP scheme to DHCP - thereby losing my static IP. Now I can't access the VT2142 interface via 192.168.0.1 to recover that IP. I'd like to not have to hard-reset the router just so I can get back up and running.”

Emac, a full forum member, replied, “as far as i know there is no default static IP on the 2142..when you log in to set it to static there is either no IP at all or it is all 0s”. Lucite was very excited, he replied, “Thx for your response. Miracle: I found the IP - I had in fact saved it. It's 20.0.0.1.”

He added saying, “But I still can't log into the admin interface - I think the issue is with my subnet because here are my parameters: Static IP asigned by VT2142 router: 20.0.0.1 Router IP: 192.168.0.1 I put in for my subnet: 255.255.255.0 - but I think that's wrong. Anyone have any ideas how to access my admin panel?” ImpetusEra however had some solutions. He said, “If the static IP of the 2142 is set to 20.0.0.1 then to access it you must set your pc with a static address within the same range. Try setting your pc as 20.0.0.2 with a subnet mask of 255.0.0.0.” The Lucite immediately said, “Thx but you misunderstood me - it's *my* computer's IP which is 20.0.01. The 2142's IP is 192.168.0.1”. At this Jrsshore stated, “sorry there is no 'default' static ip on the vt2142...if there is a static 'default' ip anywhere-----tell me!....there is a default dns server ip when you set to static from dhcp and it has 10 in first octet; other than that...when you sign onto a 2142 and switch hang menu from dhcp to static the IP address sets as 0.0.0.0 waiting for you to enter the IP you want to set.”

ImpetusEra responded to Lucite saying, “Then set the pc with a static address of something available between 192.168.0.2 and 254 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0”. Phillybill included saying, “if this is the case then you have to reset your computer ip to 192.168.0.2 in order to be on the same network as the router. You cant change the routers ip as far as i know. i could be wrong, but i dont think so. it's really not a lot of info to go on here. i'm assuming that you're talking about LAN side here

Josh_atvon, has come up with some common problems which he puts up as, “I have these two routers I mentioned on the topic: Linksys WRT54GX and Vonage Linksys WRTP54G. Mine now is connected so that my-Modem -> WRT54GX -> WRTP54G. WRT54GX LAN 1 port is connected to WRT54G LAN 1 port. Then I connect LAN 2 port of WRTP54G to WAN port of WRTP54G, otherwise my vonage service won't work. I was following this thread http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic7668.html I tried to place the WRTP54G ahead of the WRT54GX but the internet connection is somewhat slower, so I switched it. After a month now, I realize that (with this setting: my-Modem -> WRT54GX -> WRTP54G) computer connected to WRTP54G can't browse the internet whether it's wired or wireless connection. Since I've been using WRT54GX to connect to the internet, it wasn't much a problem to me. But I'm just curious, is there any workaround? Perhaps there's an easier way to link both router?” It can be expected that this thread would be answered soon and suggestions from the others members to this problem would be appreciated.”
