Vonage VoIP Forum Digest - April 3, 2007

Vonage VoIP Forum DigestApril 3, 2007

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today’s edition of Vonage Forum Digest.

In the news today we will come to know about an agreement that Vonage has signed with Voip Inc. Later we will discuss a thread that speaks about the TCP connection and read the suggestions provided as well. Then we will look into a detailed report of the day’s Vonage stock price and compare it with Vonage stock status as of Friday.

In the News

Voip Inc to provide network services for Vonage Customer
Vonage has penned a two-year contract with VoIP, Inc. to provide network services to the customers of Vonage. The agreement states that the Voip network service provider would carry calls placed by Vonage customers under its VOICEONE brand. This agreement will help Vonage come out of two of the three Verizon patents that the former is said to have violated.

The two-year contract signed between Vonage and Voip Inc in coherence with the 8-K filing of the Securities and Exchange Commission would definitely bring positive results for Vonage.

The network services that the Vonage customers are soon going to have would plausibly be under Voip Inc’s VOICEONE brand. This agreement was essential for Vonage in the wake of the Federal jury’s judgment last month. Though the juries found that Vonage did not infringe the three patents of Verizon intentionally but yet it had to pay the penalty for the damage in monetary and legal terms.

On the Vonage Voip Forum

A new Forum member SerenaSmi started off with as interesting thread by naming it, ‘I want to change my voice'. Serena is a new forum member who puts up her thread with the expectation of getting response from the other forum members.

Mark896 was facing serious problem with the TCP connection which, when hooked up with the Vonage, becomes firewalled. He is a new forum member, who begins a new thread naming it as, ‘VT2142 causing “TCP Firewalled”—Where’s the problem’. Mark896 puts up his query, “Ok, I just got ADSL hooked up today (Korea). I'm on an older version of BearShare a lot and this connection is AWESOME. My (vonage) setup is: cable coming out of wall (DSL) into DSL modem, into Motorola VT2142, into PC. The problem is, when I hook up Vonage, it causes my TCP connection to be firewalled but the UDP connection remains un-firewalled. I went to to make some configuration changes and I enabled uPnP but am not sure where to go to next.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I'm running XP Home and I'm sure that the Vonage modem configuration is the problem. The only time I get the firewalled message is when I bring the VT2142 into the picture. Otherwise, both TCP and UDP are nonfirewalled.”

Noct, a full forum member in the morning tried to help out mark896 by suggesting, “uPNP probably won't help you in this situation. It's more for SNTP and other modifications to your modem directly. I'd suggest you try then either making port forwarding or DMZ for your computer's IP address.” NateHoy Vonage Forum MVM agrees with Noct and replies, “UPnP probably won't help you. I only disagree with his reasoning as to why. In my Vonage-supplied WRTP54G, UPnP simply did not work. I wouldn't be too surprised to hear the same problem with the VT2142. As Noct already mentioned, what you need to do is enable port forwarding for the ports you are using.

I've never used BearShare and I have no idea what it does, but I assume it's some sort of P2P application similar to BitTorrent. What you need to do is find out what ports it needs fowarded, and forward those ports to the computer that's running BearShare.” Mark896 ends up the thread with a happy note saying, “Thanks for your help guys. I used and it walked me through everything.”

Vonage Stock Report

On Monday at the New York Stock Exchange the Vonage stock closed at $3.58 a share which is 13 cents (+3.77%) more that the closing price of Friday, which was $3.45 a share. The day’s lowest price was $3.40. The total number of shares traded on Monday at the New York stock exchange was 1,952,000.

This was all for today's edition, tomorrow we shall come up with another edition of Vonage Digest Forum.
