Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest. 

First, I have two announcements.

Late Saturday, we passed 38 million page views since we started the Vonage Forum a little over four years ago. Every time you click on a page here, that's one more page view. So let's see how quickly we can reach 39 million!!!

First, let's learn how you might be able to get some money back from the U.S. federal excise tax collected on Vonage calls.

Let's go straight to a Vonage Forum thread about incoming call issues, and then there's this thread I think we should highlight and it concerns pops and clicks on some Vonage calls. Then we'll update Vonage's stock price.

Blog Reports Vonage 3% Refund Offer

The authoritative blog CrunchGear reports the following note was sent out by Vonage to Vonage customers:

If you made long distance calls from March 1, 2003 – July 31, 2006 you could get 3% of your monthly charges refunded.

Consumers who don’t use Vonage should call their provider and ask how they can get a refund.

Those with Vonage should do the following:
1. Log into your Vonage web account and click on Billing.

2. Next, click on Billing History, located directly under the Billing link.

3. This will show every invoice created since your account was created.

4. Select each invoice (one at a time) dated March 1, 2003 – July 31, 2006.

5. Locate the section labeled Charges Detail

On The Vonage Voip Forum

Vonage Forum Member Mainer asks an interesting question in a thread he has decided to launch and name, No incoming calls...not even in Activity log!!!

"2  years of good service. BUT....Now suddenly I can't get incoming calls," Mainer writes. "They don't even show up in my log - so it doesn't even forward to my cell, as it usually does. I have the delay set for 25 seconds, so that's OK. 

"Lately, though, when I answered the phone, I heard a short ratchet noise - like an old fashioned rotary phone - for about 2 seconds," he adds. "But now no calls at all. Tech help leads me through all the hoops and then dumps me. No luck Googling this problem, and the trouble shooter is no help either. If it were a problem on my side of the modem, then it should forward to my cell phone. And it would show up in my activity log. And it doesn't."

It is at this point that Steve48, our most frequent poster, joins in.

"I assume that outgoing works all right. There's really nothing that you can do without support from customer service on this one," Steve 48 advises.  "I'd call and demand tier 2 technical help. You might also want to try Email using the forum contact page. We're told that gets special attention."

But then guess what. Mainer comes back and writes, "Incoming came back....lasted several hours, but it's OK now.. Thanks!"

By the way, thanks, Mainer, and all other Vonage Forum thread-starters who make an extra post after they've solved the problem for which they opened the thread in the first place. Doing so frees up those several dozen Vonage Forum Members who give advice, to do so for other Members.

Speaking of, here's a Vonage Forum thread called Pops and Clicks Solved.

"I was able to solve the pops and clicks heard during telephone calls by changing my bandwidth saver from Higher to Highest Sound Quality. No more pops and clicks," writes Vonage Forum Member bknfla, who has started this thread.

"After making the change you have to wait a few minutes till the firmware is copied down to your ATA," he explains.

Now bknfla gets to the meat of the issue.

"After searching and trying everything else this is the only thing that worked," he writes. "I thought it was my WIFI setup because of my 2.4 phone and WIFI router - that was not it - as some also thought. I thought it was the type of router. I thought it was the Cat 5 wiring. What a simple solution and I would think that it would be added to the FAQ for Vonage. It seems there are lots of people that have this issue and not just on Vonage.

"I am curious if changing the bandwidth is just changing the codec which uses more bandwidth?," he asks.

"I was having the same issue," adds new Vonage Forum Member WE302. "That worked, thanks."

Vonage Stock Report

On Friday on the New York Stock Exchange, Vonage stock closed at $4.00 a share, which was a decrease of 16 cents (-3.85%) from Thursday's closing price of $4.16 a share, but then again it was a rebound of three cents higher than the day's lowest price for Vonage stock, and that was $3.97a share. Total Vonage shares traded on Friday were 1,951,200 shares.

We've Updated Our VoIP Speed Test

Because we get new Vonage Forum Members here all the time, I'll call your attention to our upgraded Voip Speed Test.

Instead of the simple upload/download test, this one has all the reporting that is needed to diagnose ISP issues such as Jitter and Packet Loss.

The advanced report screen has been configured with a "Copy to Clip Board" button so you can easily paste the results in the forums.

Voip packets per second =75
