In the news, we'll learn about a surprising but prestigious award a Vonage executive was honored with yesterday. Then, let's go straight to a Vonage Forum thread from a user who was assigned someone else's Vonage number, and then another post about deleting phone numbers off the Vonage VTech 8100 phone book that comes with the product. Then we'll update Vonage's stock price.

Vonage Executive Honored By E9-1-1 Institute

Stephen Seitz, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs for Vonage, has been named Industry Professional of the Year by the E9-1-1 Institute in Washington, D.C., for demonstrating exceptional contributions towards the advancement of emergency 9-1-1 communications, specifically overseeing Vonage's massive E9-1-1 roll out. Seitz was recognized at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. last night,

Vonage says that because of his efforts, has equipped more than 94 percent of its subscriber lines with E9-1-1 in approximately a year. The Enhanced 9-1-1 service automatically associates a physical address with the calling party's telephone number. The most recent upgrades bring the total number of lines fitted for E9-1-1 to more than 2 million.

"We are very proud of Stephen and his team for working hard to ensure that all our customers have access to vital 9-1-1 service," said Mike Snyder, Vonage CEO. "To be recognized by such a reputable organization like the E9-1-1 Institute certainly validates our efforts to make Vonage a safe and reliable option for your phone service."

Prior to joining Vonage, Seitz served as the senior strategist and first Director of Government Affairs for the National Emergency Number Association (NENA). In his current assignment, Seitz is responsible for helping the leading broadband Internet phone company in the facilitation and implementation of E9-1-1.

"Steve's dedication to public safety is the driving force behind many successful implementations of 9-1-1 access over VoIP services," said Gregory L. Rohde, executive director of the Institute. "His tireless work makes not only Vonage proud, but he has gained tremendous appreciation and praise throughout the public safety community."


On The Vonage Voip Forum

Well, we all make mistakes. That seems to be the case as explained in a new Vonage Forum thread called, New Service Issue - Got someone else's number. This thread has been started by new Vonage Forum Member jc265.

"I just got Vonage today. Installed everything and it all worked fine," jc265 writes. "I called myself from my cellphone to see how it sounded and such.. but when I did that, I got connected to a business in Kansas City.. So I hung up, checked the number and called again...same business. 

Then jc265 called Vonage customer support, and was told the only way to resolve this is by charging him $10.74 for a new line. 

"Why should I get charged for them giving me someone else's number? I asked if this will be credited to my account, and he said "um..I think it should." THINK? You have to be kidding me. Is this a common problem? This just doesn't seem right."

It doesn't seem right to fellow Vonage Forum Member Jose_7584 either. He suggests that jc265 call back and specifically request Vonage ATS (Advanced Tech Support), which is based at Vonage HQ in New Jersey. 

Now here is another interesting thread. Although it is posted in the Vonage Canada Forum section of the Vonage Forum, it should be of interest to a wide variety of Vonage users wherever they (and that means you) might live.

The thread is entitled deleting numbers from VTech. IP8100. It was begun by Vonage Forum Member bluntslyd.

"Does anyone know how to delete numbers from the phone book," he asks about the VTech IP8100. "I cant figure it out."

And at this point, fellow Vonage Forum Member roscopco provides an answer.

Here's what he advises:

"Googled the question and here is the answers. manual in PDF go to page 17 and 18 or read below. 

delete a Phonebook Entry Press MENU. With PHONEBOOK in the first line, press SEL. With the REVIEW in the first line, press SEL again. - 

OR - 

With the handset idle, press and the handset jumps directly into the phonebook review mode. The first phonebook entry will be displayed. • Scroll through the phonebook entries using or keys or enter first character of the name to be searched (using the digit keys) and continue scrolling using the and keys, until you reach the entry to be dialed. • Press MUTE/delete to delete the entry. A confirmation tone will sound.

Vonage Stock Report

On Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange, Vonage stock closed at $4.16 a share, which was a drop of 15 cents (-3.48%) from Monday's closing price of $4.31 a share, but then again it was a rebound of 10 cents higher than the day's lowest price for Vonage stock, and that was $4.16 a share. Total Vonage shares traded on Tuesday attained 1,379,300 shares.

We've Updated Our VoIP Speed Test

Because we get new Vonage Forum Members here all the time, I'll call your attention to our upgraded Voip Speed Test.

Instead of the simple upload/download test, this one has all the reporting that is needed to diagnose ISP issues such as Jitter and Packet Loss.

The test is located in Washington DC.

The data.bin file for the speed test upload/download is 10Mb with 8 seconds max time out.

75,000 bytes is used to calculate the number of supported Voip lines.

Other variables:

Voip lines simulated =1
Voip bytes per packet =8
Voip simulation seconds =10
Voip packets per second =75
