Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest. 

In the news, we'll look at Vonage's rising stock price, as well as how a racing team co-sponsored by Vonage did over the weekend.  We'll also go over a Vonage Voip Forum thread about alternative routers to use with the Vonage service, as well as a billing question about forwarded Vonage calls.



In The News

For Second Consecutive Day, Vonage Shares Rise On New York Stock Exchange

To read all these press accounts, blogs, and even a handful of posts here criticizing Vonage stock, it is interesting to note that on Friday on the New York Stock Exchange, Vonage stock closed at $12.32 a share. That's 34cents higher than Friday's price, which was $11.98 a share. Total trading volume for Vonage Monday was 3,344,100 shares. These are the first two days since Vonage stock went on sale that the share price has gone up on two successive days. The gain was even more impressive when you consider that the overall trading day on the NYSE was kind of bad. The Dow Jones index went down 199.  

Obviously though, Vonage stock is still a hot topic - one that interests Vonage investors, lawyers for at least a few of those investors, and from what I can tell by looking at our page views, lots of you on the Vonage Forum. That's a key reason why I have grouped all this news in the Vonage Stock Forum- which can be reached from this link.

Vonage Drivers Finish Tenth In Sports Car Race

Co-sponsored by Vonage, race car driver Ryan Dalziel and his teammate Alex Figge finished tenth in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series race held at Watkins Glen, New York on Saturday night. Ryan was behind the wheel in Pacific Coast Motorsports' #89 Playboy/Vonage/Palms Pontiac Riley.

"Needless to say we were hoping to come away from Watkins Glen with a stronger finish, not least due to our pace in practice, but with the grid order settled on the championship standings we were starting off on the back foot a little," Ryan said after the event. "We kept ourselves busy though and Alex took the car to the front mid-race but unfortunately we couldn't sustain it! We messed up our tire call towards the end which ended up dropping us a lap but given we hadn't scored a top-ten finish until Phoenix last time out, to come away with another is encouraging but there's still work to be done!"

New Vonage Forum Member shannydaw has started a new thread named Linksys WRTP54G alternatives.

"Is there a cheaper alternative to the Vonage offered Linksys WRTP54G?," shannydaw asks. "Can I use another brand? If so what technical specs should I look for?" 

Then shannydaw explains he just needs to go wireless to a laptop for internet and 1 phone jack.

Reebok, who has logged more posts than any of our 28,000+ Vonage Forum Members, tells shannydaw that although he can use whatever Vonage device he wants, he can't bring his own device in. 

Then Reebok links to a list of Vonage products: which is at products.php-lid=nav_products. He suggests electronics stores as other options.

On a new Vonage Forum thread entitled Do Forwarded Calls Count As Minutes Used?, Vonage Forum Member nickname  asks the question indicated in the thread name.

"I signed up on the $14.99 / mo. plan that includes 500 minutes. While I don't expect to meet or exceed the allotted minutes, I would like your help answering this question," nickname writes. "Do forwarded calls count against my minutes?"

Just coming off a two-week stint as Vonage Forum Member of the week, Steve48 follows up with a post that supplies the answer to nickname's question.

"If you're talking about forwarding incoming calls to your Vonage line to another line, the answer is yes, the minutes for that call count against your 500," writes Steve 48, who then refers and links to an article linked here.

We've Updated Our Voip Speed Test

I wanted to call your attention to our upgraded Voip Speed Test. It's been getting a lot of comments, not only here on the Vonage Forum but on DSL Reports as well. Here's the link to the thread on DSL Reports where lots of their members (and me, as well) have been posting about the test.

OK, I guess I should get to the test itself.

Instead of the simple upload/download test, this one has all the reporting that is needed to diagnose ISP issues such as Jitter and Packet Loss.

The advanced report screen will be configured in the next day or so with a "Copy to Clip Board" button so you can easily paste the results in the forums.

I would like to thank the following members for giving valuable input during the beta testing: reebok, Steve48, NateHoy, VonageTPA, Trowski and scerruti.

For those of you that are interested in the details behind the results, the following are the tests parameters:

The test is located in Washington DC.

The data.bin file for the speed test upload/download is 10Mb with 8 seconds max time out.

75,000 bytes is used to calculate the number of supported Voip lines.

Other variables:

Voip lines simulated =1
voip bytes per packet =8
voip simulation seconds =10
voip packets per second =75
