Vonage Teams With Uniden

Vonage In Print News

January 3, 2006

By Staff

LAS VEGAS -- Vonage Marketing, a subsidiary of Vonage Holdings Corp., a leading broadband phone company, and Uniden America Corporation, a leading manufacturer of wireless consumer electronics, today announced the retail availability for the Uniden UIP1869V, a 5.8GHz digital expandable cordless broadband phone system configured with Vonage's flat-rate, full-featured phone service. The phone is now available in CompUSA and Fry's Electronics. Other retail locations are pending. The Uniden UIP1869V incorporates Texas Instruments' (TI) TNETV1060 Voip chipset, enabling consumers to benefit from high quality voice applications compatible with the Vonage service. It has a retail price of $189.99 and offers a $50 mail-in rebate to consumers after sixty days of service.

"Vonage is pleased to offer its customers Uniden's broadband enabled cordless phone system, as the company always seeks to offer a variety of hardware choices for its innovative flat-rate, full-featured calling plans," stated Matthew Deatrick, senior vice president of sales for Vonage Marketing. "Vonage's service, coupled with the simplicity, great design and retail strength of Uniden 's phone system, makes this a strong alliance for two companies who share the same customer service vision of quality and ease of use."

The UIP1869V phone base integrates routing features, eliminating the need to purchase a separate router to establish the broadband connection with a PC. The UIP1869V, configured with Vonage service, offers a corded phone and a speakerphone at the base station and includes one accessory handset. Utilizing Uniden's cordless technology, the expandable UIP1869V can support up to 10 Uniden 5.8GHz cordless handsets without the need for additional broadband connections, making it easy to deploy Vonage service throughout the home. The UIP1869V plugs directly into a customer's broadband connection or existing router, eliminating the need for a stand-alone adapter and telephone. The phone base works with Vonage's Click-2-Call(TM) features, which support Outlook's phonebook downloading.

"Uniden is proud to announce the first retail agreement for the UIP1869V, enabled with Vonage's feature-rich service, and to continue the company's dedication to offering cutting-edge Voip solutions to consumers," said Brett Morrison, national sales manager in charge of IP products and business communications at Uniden America Corporation. "The national retail distribution of the UIP1869V will allow consumers to experience this industry-leading product and take a first-hand look at the ease-of-use offered by the Uniden/Vonage solution."

In a separate release:

LAS VEGAS -- Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company, a leading marketer of telecommunications and other consumer electronics products, and Vonage Marketing, a subsidiary of Vonage Holdings Corp., a leading broadband phone company, have teamed up to develop a broadband cordless phone system, configured with Vonage's service. The new phone system, co-developed by the two companies and manufactured by Panasonic, will use a unique system that permits direct telephone hook up to a customer's broadband connection, eliminating the need for a stand-alone adaptor.

"Vonage and Panasonic share a similar vision for the future of communications," stated Daniel Smires, senior vice president of Engineering of Vonage Network. "This collaboration is another example of how our two companies are working to change the way people communicate by offering choices that fit any lifestyle."

"Voice-over-IP communications (VoIP) offers a number of practical benefits to consumers," said Frank Lasorsa, vice president, product and marketing communications division, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company, "and our collaboration with Vonage allows us to deliver this important feature. Vonage's technology meshes well with our development, manufacturing and marketing expertise, to help us deliver cutting edge products and capabilities."

This system, co-developed by the two companies, enables consumers and small businesses to easily set up a high-quality feature-rich phone service via their broadband connection, at significantly reduced rates in comparison to traditional telephone service. Further, by capitalizing on Vonage's strengths in broadband telephony and Panasonic's strong reputation in developing and marketing high-quality phone handsets, retailers have the opportunity to increase sales and expand consumer choice in Voip hardware.

"Together, Vonage and Panasonic are collaborating to offer everything a customer needs to make high-quality, inexpensive phone calls, in one simple, easy-to-use device," said Daniel Smires.
