Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

December 29, 2005

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to our special year-end edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest.

First of all, I'd like to thank each and every one of you Vonage Forum Members, posters and readers for a great 2005. Here are some highlights from this past year:

We started 2005 with more than 4,650 Members. Just this year, we increased our Member count more than four-fold. As I write this, we are just short of 20,500 Members!

We started 2005 with more than 3,500,000 page views since our beginnings in March, 2003. It looks like we will end the year with more than 15,750,000 page views! That means that more of you are coming to the Forums every day, reading and posting.

And speaking of posting, we're ending the year with more than 10,200 post topics. That's a more than four-times leap from the start of the year, when we had 2,226 posts logged!

Our most active Vonage Forum Member this year has been reebok. Since the year started, up thru this afternoon, reebok has made 2,471 posts this year alone! That's more than six posts a day! The rest of the top five posters, with the number of posts made from January 1 of this year thru this afternoon include Trowski, 1,256; scerruti, 832; VonageTPA, and - in only four months with us - Steve48, with 689! We all look forward to reading many more informative posts from each of you guys- not only the five I mentioned, but thousands of you others!

A great number of posts were questions about new, as well as existing, Vonage products, services, and announcements. So let us review what's been in news about Vonage this year!

In The News This Year

Vonage picked up its 400,000th subscriber, and started service in the UK. We started our Vonage UK Forum the previous month, December, 2004.

Vonage activated its 500,000th line in March.

In April, announced a marketing Alliance with Vonage to offer VoIP-compatible security systems to Vonage customers.

In May, Vonage announced agreements with Verizon and BellSouth for nomadic VoIP. Vonage also raised $200 million for expansion, and speaking of, announced free calls to and from Puerto Rico.

In June, Vonage said it was partnering with Uniden to offer a cordless broadband phone system.

In July, Vonage announced that VTech, one of the largest suppliers of corded and cordless phones in North America would make its the IP-8100-2, cordless broadband phone system configured with Vonage’s phone service and would be available at retailers. Vonage also selected TCS (TeleCommunications Systems) to provide key E911 technology.

In August, Vonage announced an alliance with fixed wireless broadband Internet services provider TowerStream to offer Vonage services to TowerStream customers. August was also the month in which Hurricane Katrina hit the U.S. Gulf Coast. While other telephone and Internet services were down, Vonage played a key role in relief coordination efforts.

In September, Vonage activated its one millionth line, and announced it had signed with Level 3 to expand 911 options for Vonage users.

In November, Vonage won an award from Keynote Systems for having the best website customer service among all Voip providers.

In December, Vonage released its UTStarcom F1000 Wi-Fi phone, added Enhanced 911 capacity to more than 110 U.S. counties large and small, and closed another $250 million funding round.

That's just 2005! I have a feeling that 2006 will be even more exciting for Vonage and for the Vonage Forum! And the place to keep up with it all is the Vonage Forum Digest!

Want to receive the Digest automatically in 2006? As we close out today's special edition, I'd like to remind you once again about some more options you have to receive the Vonage Voip Forum Digest every day. If you go to this page:, you will see a list of RSS Newsreaders from which with one or two clicks, you'll be able to get your Digest delivered directly to your Newsreader each morning. The Newsreaders we've linked to on that page include such reliable and trusted services as Bloglines, Feedster, My Yahoo!, Newsgator and Feedburner. I am open to add others, just contact me with the info of the Newsreader.

We'll be back on Tuesday morning with our first 2006 edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest!! Meanwhile, Happy New Year, and drive safely!!
