Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest. 

First, I would like to repeat some very exciting news I first wrote about in Wednesday's edition. Tuesday at 3:13 p.m. Eastern Time, the Vonage Forum got our 15 millionth page view since we started up in March, 2003. Every time you click on a page, that's one page view. In the news, we'll tell you about a cell phone distributor that is getting into the Vonage retail business, and introduce you to a U.K.-based musical instruments distributor who has slashed his phone bills in half since he has switched his business phones to Vonage. We'll also point you to a Vonage VoIP Forum thread from a Member whose calls keep cutting out, and another from a Member who likes fast cars but not fast rings.

Cellphone Distributor Getting Into Retail: Will Stock Vonage Equipment

Indiana-based cellphone distributor Brightpoint is getting into the retail business. It plans to open a branded FonoWireless store in Noblesville, Indiana - about 20 miles north of Indianapolis. Products from Vonage, two major cell phone companies, and  satellite radio provider Sirius - soon to be the radio home of Howard Stern - will stock the shelves. Brightpoint says it plans to license Fono Wireless brand like a franchise.

Fono Wireless offers "entrepreneurs and existing independent wireless dealer agents the opportunity to take advantage of Brightpoint's position in the wireless industry, and operate a unique wireless retail store that delivers a quality, unique experience to consumers," said Robert J. Laikin, CEO of Brightpoint.

Vonage Saves UK Musical Instruments Distributor A Bundle

Synergy Distribution is a musical instruments distribution firm in the West Midlands area of the U.K.

Thanks to Vonage, it has been able to slash its phone bill by half- or around 250 pounds a month (in U.S. dollars, that's around $434) after switching to Vonage.

Synergy Distribution, based in Tamworth, says the new system has cut its phone bills by pounds 250 a month since it was installed last May.

The firm, has also been able to operate more efficiently thanks to the advanced features Vonage has built into the system.

"Vonage has allowed us to use the innovative features to re-configure how we run the company, how we can situate the company, and was not just about reducing call costs," says Alan Greensall, Synergy Distribution's managing director.

Synergy originally operated from a converted barn, but faced with a requirement for more storage space, the firm swapped its office for a warehouse, Its two partners worked from home. That obviously means more calling, and more call-routing requirements.

When Synergy receives a call, the Vonage system means phone lines at both home offices and the warehouse ring simultaneously. Call are also forwarded to mobiles if staff are traveling.

Greensall says another advantage of the Vonage system is its "virtual" number feature, which in the UK,allows Vonage subscribers to get  virtual numbers from any of the 601 area codes Vonage offers in the U.K. 

Greensall, who visits the US on business two or three times a year, adds he is able to take calls directed to the company's Vonage number on his mobile when he is traveling on business trips.

On The Vonage Voip Forum

On The Vonage UK Forum section of the Vonage Forum, new Member sranson has titled his new thread, Newbie question-phone cutting out.

"Had my Vonage UK line for a couple of months, but for the last couple of weeks have had the line cutting out after maybe 30 seconds of call. No real pattern to the cut off, sometimes works great for as long as the call, other times it seems to have really poor quality voice and then gives up," sranson writes." What is my first port of call to get this sorted," he asks, adding he hopes that answers from Vonage Forum Members will show that  there is "a pool of accumulated knowledge" on the subject..

Well, several Members have jumped into the pool, including Forum Member alick - whose real first name is Jim. 

"I've been with Vonage for about a month. I had the same problem with the calls dropping out after 30 seconds, "he writes. "I got in touch with my broadband provider and they explained that the speed of DSL wasn't high enough. 

Jim then adds that he increased the speed to 2 MB and then his broadband service provider's tech support  told him what to type in the "commands." "Vonage has worked OK ever since," he writes.

Judging from the user name new Vonage Forum Member CORVETTE has selected, I'd bet he likes fast cars. But judging from the title he gave his first thread, he doesn't like Fast Ring.

"Does anybody who has Vonage notice there is a faster ring when making a phone call than a traditional land-line phone or a cell phone?," CORVETTE writes. "For example, when I make a phone call with a regular phone, someone's voicemail would pick up after 4 traditional rings, but with Vonage picks up after 7-8 rings since they are much faster."

Fellow Vonage Forum Member NateHoy writes, "well, I wouldn't necessarily call it a problem. The ring you hear on your end and the ring that the other person hears are unrelated. Vonage's recording of a ring just doesn't match up with the standard 'speed' of ringing."

Then Vonage Forum Member sanannbass adds to the thread with a post in which he writes, "if you are hearing a fast ring tone on your phone when there is an incoming call, and you have an RTP300. Then you need the latest firmware."

NateHoy jumps back in with some firmware tips, advising CORVETTE  either to call Vonage Customer service "or check the level as it stands - the current release (if it matches the WRTP54G, which I think it is supposed to) is 1.00.55."

So How Do We Come Up With Those Titles For You Members?

I am sure that many of you have noticed that next to each posts, we have a description of each Member- "Vonage Forum Associate," Vonage Forum Evangelist," etc. Most of these titles are assigned based on the number of Posts Members have made.
