Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest. In today’s edition, we’ll look at the latest developments in the trend that may result in some Vonage customers being cut off from their service on November 28. We’ll also go through some interesting new Vonage Voip Forum threads on resetting the time a Vonage connection and associated Caller I.D., as well as thread from a reader who had a particular problem with the Linksys RTP300.



Vonage In The Headlines

Some Voip Customers May Have To Be Cut Off

Roughly 750,000 of the estimated 2.5 million Internet telephone customers may have service turned off because providers cannot offer enhanced 911 service, according to a survey released on Monday by Voice On the Net Coalition.

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission ordered providers to suspend service by November 28 to customers who will not have enhanced 911 services, which includes providing dispatchers a caller's number and location.

Most of those who would have to be disconnected would have only basic 911 access, and are residential customers who use their service in multiple locations, the VON Coalition said.

The group said hurdles facing Voip providers to offer enhanced 911 service include accessing the necessary databases, the short time frame, and technological limits. The survey included a dozen Voip providers like Vonage Holdings Corp.

Last week, several Voip providers (not including Vonage) filed an emergency appeal with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit seeking a stay of the FCC order while it challenges the requirements.

The providers argued, among other things, that they had only 120 days to comply with the requirements, while other telecommunications services like wireless had much more time.

The FCC has until Tuesday to respond. Last week FCC Chairman Kevin Martin defended the deadline.

According to the VON Coalition, less than half of the dozen VOIP providers surveyed, 42 percent said they would be able to provide enhanced 911 service to 100 percent of their customers with a primary fixed location.

sanannbass has a new thread that he calls, Time is not correct on phone or caller ID.

“I have two lines with CID boxes and a phone that all display the incorrect time,” sanannbass writes. “Looked at settings on RTP300 but could not find one. Any ideas?”

Vonage Forum Maaz posts an answer.

“Log into your Vonage account at www.vonage.com and click on the Account tab. See what it says for "Time Zone" If incorrect, click on "Edit Account Information" and change it to whatever your time zone is,” Maaz says. “Even if it's correct, you can try temporarily changing it to an incorrect time zone, then changing back to the correct one. That should reset it. If, after doing so, it still doesn't, power cycle your RTP300 (unplug, wait 30 seconds and plug it back in).

“The next time you receive a call,” Maaz adds, “it should correct itself.”

 Now, let us go to a thread where sanannbass didn’t ask a question. Instead, he provided the answer.

Over the weekend, new Vonage Forum Member Pexcer started a thread that he called, RTP300 Logviewer.

“I have the RTP300 and am having some trouble with online gaming, posted in another topic. http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic9244.html. I want to set it up to log and found that in the router interface, but can't figure out how to view the log,” Pexcer writes. “My router didn't come with any CD and I couldn't find out how to download the Logviewer from Linksys. “

Then sanannbass made a post in which he pointed Pexcer to ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/. “Look for the folder Logviewer and download away....,” he writes.
