Pimp That Phone, the Silly Season is Here

As we head towards August, the newswires are starting to fill up with stories that, quite frankly, wouldn't get a look in during the rest of the year. Yes, the silly season has started. So, to mark this important occasion, an appropriate story has been selected. We start though, with the words that preface such stories on TV stations around the world.
And finally....
VoIP operator Vonage has signed up four "celebrity technology contestants" to compete in its "Pimp That Phone" competition.
We would really like to end the story right there, but feel that it probably does deserve an explanation. Vonage says that its competition derives from "the wildly popular technology craze called case modding". Apparently, case modding - the art of decking out the CPU of a personal computer to give it a personal touch - is now moving to the telephone through the use of "electric colours, dazzling jewels, and a heavy dose of imagination".
We'll let the press release describe the four celebrity technology contestants: "Each of the contestants has something different to bring to the table. Joshua Driggs hails from Austin, Texas and describes himself as a self- proclaimed 'tech head' and has already won numerous awards from Tech TV for past projects. Montana Quinn Cherney, the dark-eyed temptress from Washington, D.C., is an expert in graphic design and sculpture, which she claims may give her a slight advantage. Bonzangeo is known as the master PC moder by his friends and family in Gainesville, GA. He also believes his ticket to winning this competition will be his trademark goggles. Lastly, Christopher Dol says that, "Most mod makers say they like to think outside the box. I don't even have a box. I mod on a feeling.""
