Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage Voip Forum Digest.

Today, we'll tell you just how many of those Vonage ads appeared on Web pages last week, ask you to help a Vonage customer whose spouse wants their old phone service back, and why a fuzzy cable television picture and a lack of Voip call quality can be caused by something you might not have thought of. We've also got highlights from Vonage Voip Forum threads about slow Internet speeds and what one Forum member did when he found out that Vonage would not work with his home-protection alarm system.

In The Headlines

Vonage Ads Are Everywhere

If you think you see online ads for Vonage more often than ads from any other company or marketer, well you are right.

In fact, for the week ending May 29, online ads for Vonage were seen 670,799,000 times. That's not even including ads that appear on Vonage's own site.

Yes, 670,799,000 sounds like a lot- more than twice the number of all people in the United States and Canada combined. So where does this number come from?

Every week, Nielsen/NetRatings/Ad Relevance compiles a list of companies who have spent the most money on online ads.

Basically, this measuring firm researches the list by counting the estimated page views thousands of sites receive each week, and then multiplying that figure by the estimated number of times ads from individual companies appear on these sites and pages.

As many of us already know just by simple observation, Vonage advertises often, and on sites that get lots of traffic. That strategy accounts for the 670,799,000 page views in the latest week. Just in case you are interested, other telecommunications companies on the Nielsen list included Verizon, (4th); SBC (9th); BellSouth (16th); United Online (NetZero, 18th); and telephone services provider Primus Telecommunications (20th), which operates mostly in Canada and Australia.

Vonage User's Wife Says: "Bring Back Our Old Phone, Please"!

We got back a hearty chuckle earlier today when we read blogger Duncan Mackenzie's post entitled "The Spouse Acceptance Factor."

Apparently, while Duncan is a satisfied Vonage customer, his wife had a rough patch with the service. She had been using Vonage to make appointments and call friends, but the service has been cutting out on her. Then, the other day, Vonage was down for an hour, she told Duncan that she wanted Vonage to work all the time.

Vonage Call Quality, Cable TV Quality Can Be Related

ZDNet IP Telephony blogger Russell Shaw writes that for the last week or so, the quality of his cable modem-facilitated Voip calls started to get crackly. When he left his Voip connection to watch a little cable television, a parallel quality loss started to occur.

Russ suspected they were related. He called the cable guy. The cable guy came out and said that the drop to Russ' home had physically deteriorated. The installer replaced the drop, and now things are working fine, Russ reports.

We include this story to point out that sometimes, the problem with your Vonage calls is not with the Vonage service, or with your router or adapter. It can be with the high-speed data service that carries your Voip calls. If your calls are static-y, and your cable tv reception looks cruddy too, maybe it is time to call the cable guy (or gal).

On The Vonage Voip Forum

Just like every day, there are several interesting new and ongoing posts on the Vonage Voip Forum.

On the new thread Vonage killed my speed?!, Forum member and new Vonage customer Hitokiri writes that that after he set up his Vonage router, his Internet access speed declined from the customary 600k per second to a snail's pace 20k. When he switched back to his old router, the speed came back to normal. He's wondering if the problem is a bad router from Vonage. Member NH Tracker posts a reply urging Hitokiri to reboot his cable modem and allow it to synch up before connecting the router. NH Tracker also recommends setting the router back to its factory default setting.

On a well-traveled, ongoing thread Brinks Alarms, several Forum members have complained that their Brinks home alarm systems are unable to transact calls once Vonage is installed. The potential consequences are obvious. Several posters have acknowledged the same problem. Member Chopperbill posts that he's just called Brinks, and they have agreed to "come out and replace the entire system and make it VoIP-workable at no charge." They want to have him sign a new 3-year contract. Chopperbill thinks it is worth it, and says he will post to the Forum again after Brinks services his home. We'll watch for Chopperbill's post, and let you know how he did.
