While not impossible, this does not make sense. Very, very, few companies use internal high speed modems these days. (I actually can't think of any, but I didn't want to make a blanket statement for the one place in the Northern part of South Dakota that might still)
I've used Verizon DSL in the past in more than one state (Not NY though) and the modem is always external. They generally adopted this for the simple reason of keeping people out of their PCs when ordering high speed service.
I have a funny feeling that if the person really said that, that they mis-spoke. I'm guessing they meant to say "on" your computer and not "in".
I just trolled around the Verizon site and I can't see anything that uses an internal modem. You will either get a DSL Modem or a DSL Gateway (which is a modem and router combined together) Because Verizon is so big, I'm pretty sure they only use a few different devices. I've always gotten a Westell modem, but that was a few years ago.
Hopefully this will clear up when you actually get the hardware from them and can see it. If this turns out to be true, follow the ordering of the hardware that VonageTPA listed in the earlier post.
