Vonage Reviews

Vonage You'll be more likely to succeed with the following more explicit settings; others

You'll be more likely to succeed with the following more explicit settings; others would work as long as they produce the same results, but if you're asking the questions you asked, you might not get the same results.

1. Connect up everything but the WRT54G and get everything working with wired connections through the VT2442.

2. Look at the inside address. It will be something like 192.168.x.y.

3. Look at the DHCP range for the VT2442. It will be something like 192.168.x.1-192.168.x.99. The range of allowed values for y is from 1 to 254, not including whatever the LAN address of the VT2442 is. The DHCP range can be all or part of that range. You want it to be most, but not all of it for what we're doing here.

4. With the WRT54G connected to NOTHING BUT POWER, log into its admin interface with either a Wireless connection or a wired connection directly into it.

5. Set its LAN address to something in the 192.168.x.* range, picking the last digit to be something which is NOT in either the VT2442s DHCP range or in the WRT54G's DHCP range. x must be the same as on the VT2442. Save and restart the WRT54G, and release and renew your DHCP address to fetch a new address from the WRT54Gs DHCP server.

6. Make sure you can talk to the WRT54G. If you can't, you'll have to factory reset it and start over. Keep it disconnected from the rest of your network, and be sure that the computer you're using to configure it is not connected to anything but the WRT54G during all of this process.

7. Write down the LAN address of the WRT54G on a piece of tape and stick it to the WRT54G. Turn off the DHCP server in the WRT54G, and save and restart. You will from now on, when the WRT54G is not connected to anything with a DHCP server in that same 192.168.x.* subnet, have to manually configure an IP address to be able to talk to the WRT54G. Of course, you can always factory reset it to get the DHCP server going again, but that will also change your subnet, so you would have to go back to step 5.

8. Connect a LAN port of the WRT54G to a LAN port of the VT2442.

You should now be able to get DHCP addresses directly from the VT2442 even if you're plugged into one of the other WRT54G LAN ports or using its wireless. If you need to look inside the WRT54G, you can specify that address you wrote on top of it.

Good luck

Port Forwarding Question once again

Well that would depend on whether your router has QoS traffic shaping queues only
Port forwarding/opening should be an issue of work/not work, not an issue of performance/quality.
QoS shaping on inbound would only help if he was suffering from LAN congestion/overload.
