Vonage You can statically set the IP address of the WAN port on the 31P2. The problem becomes

You can statically set the IP address of the WAN port on the 31P2. The problem becomes the fact that it's a router unto itself so it want to either act as a DHCP server, or allow computers with a properly set static IP address to connect to it. The issue is this....the WAN port can be configured to talk with the rest of your network. The LAN ports though cannot. They are configured to use the WAN as portal out to the web. I've tried setting the LAN address of a Linksys to the same IP range as the WAN and upon reboot, the router never came up. I had to reset the router to make it accessible again. The reason you are having problems is that devices sitting behind the 31P2 router are running double NAT. Your computer/device is asking the 31P2 to go and get info for it and then the 31P2 is asking the SR81 to get info. More than likely, data is getting lost in that mix. as it's coming back through the LAN because it doesn't know where the request for data originated.

One of the 31P2's though should be able to take the place of your SR81. The two main differences between the two are that the SR81 is an 8 port router while the 31P2 is a three port router as well as a Voip box. That's it. The 31P2 can handle the connection to your cable modem. You issue is that you lose network jacks. That's solved by running out to your local computer store and picking up an 8 port switch. Linksys makes em (their 8 porter model number EZXS88W usually runs $50).

Your probelm if you make this change will be your second 31P2. It will have the problem described above with double NAT. The only way you will probably get around this is by getting a device like the Linksys PAP2. It's just a Voip box. That's what I run since I have a dedicated firewall device. I connect the firewall to a 16 port hub and all the computers, PAP2, and my one WAP run smoothly from there.

There may be someone on the boards that might have a different solution for the 31P2 issue but I deal with this every day working in IT. I may not be the best at describing the issue but I'm pretty sure that the solution above will fix a bulk of your issues. You can easily test this by simply connecting the 31P2 to the cable modem and testing to see if the devices currently connected to that device work. If they do, then you need to rework your LAN. That or you need to see if the SR81 and the 31P2 support routing tables and go about setting up routing between all the devices. Honestly, in my mind it's easier to rework the network since it will be scalable and easier to manage as time goes on and you add or remove devices on the LAN.

OK. First off let me explain that I am network newbie (still have to cord attached
First and foremost your problem lies in the fact that you have multiple routers
That's what I was afraid of (the multiple-network problem). I'm hoping I'll be
Just change the static IP address on the voip router to a static ip address 192.168.1.2
Your problems is that that modem is not compatible with vonage.
