If you want a PSTN number for people to call you from landlines and cell phones you can get a number for $5 or less a month. Project Gizmo and Sipphone provide numbers for $35 per year, and you can pick the number you want. You can also get free call in numbers at some of these sites, but the number is from a specific area (e.g. IPkall is Washington, Gizmo is Nevada, and Stanaphone is New York City). You can make outgoing calls to the PSTN for 1 to 2 cents a minute with most of these companies. Gizmo is 1 cents and stanaphone is 1.6 cents. Stanaphone has a preconfigure SJ phone that you can download, and Gizmo has its own software phone. Gizmo does work on a SJ and x-ten as well if you configure it yourself.
