Vonage Works great for me. Anyone interested? :-) I set up three e-mail accounts

Works great for me. Anyone interested? :-)

I set up three e-mail accounts on my domain, one for Vonage to send the WAVs to, and two for that account to forward to (since Vonage only sends to one). The reason I wanted two accounts receiving VM is so my wife at home and I at work each receive all VMs.

The script is scheduled in Windows to run every five minutes. The one at home gets VM from one e-mail account, the one on my work machine from the other. These accounts are retreived via POP3, and I'm using JMAIL from DIMAC to do this (The Pro version is needed, or an equivalent control from someone else to do POP3). I also use the console LAME encoder for the MP3 work (free).

For each e-mail from Vonage, the script downloads the attachment, encodes it as an MP3 (I still can't believe Vonage doesn't give users an option for receiving VM in MP3 form), deletes the original WAV, gives the MP3 a name that exposes the calling number, date, and time (it'd do the caller's name where possible if Vonage would provide that in the e-mail as they do in the Web UI), and adds the MP3 to an M3U playlist. It then deletes the e-mail from the mail server. After doing this for each e-mail, the script finishes by enqueueing the M3U playlist in Winamp. I don't think WMP understands M3U playlists (which, when you think about it, is almost unimaginably stupid, given the format of an M3U).

When voicemail comes in, Winamp pops up with the message in the playlist editor. After listening to the message, I remove it from the editor; it's still in the file system folder. New messages overwrite the M3U I enqueue, so future messages only add themselves, not the whole folder's collection (which I delete at will, or rename to better describe them (actually I entitle them in the file's properties, and add the title column to that folder's view). It doesn't affect my normal music queue, except to add the VMs at the end.

What's been striking about this has been its reliability, ease of use, and utter invisibility. All in just 43 lines of VBS qickly cobbled together.

Again, anyone interested? :-)
