With the assistance of Vonage tech support, I have successfully configured my fax machine. Originally I could receive but not send faxes. After about 60 minutes on the phone with the rep I think it's fixed.
Here's my setup:
Cox cable with Motorola modem
Linksys RT31P2 router ("voice router") configured for two voice lines
Linksys RT31P2 router ("fax router")configured for a fax line on phone 2; HP OfficeJet 6110 fax machine connected via two-conductor cord to fax router phone 2
Apple Airport base station and iMac computer on spare ethernet ports on voice router
The rep and I went through a couple of different trials, including moving the fax router in front of the voice router ( nothing worked then), power cycling the routers, computer, and cable modem multiple times, and increasing the packet size to 30 on the fax router. This last item, along with a firmware update on the fax router, seemed to do the trick.
I also have error correction set to "off" on the fax machine. this model does not allow one to specify a baud rate.
I was able to fax to a normal fax machine as well as a computer fax server (sorry, don't know what kind of server).
I'm going to give this a couple of weeks before I turn off my POTS fax line, but this is very promising.[/list]
