With all the talk about Vonage's imminent financial demise/bankruptcy, I'd like to list the features that would ensure this company's survival.
I've cancelled 3 virtual lines with them already and am hanging onto my main line for the time being.
So these are features that would convince me to KEEP my Vonage account indefinitely if instituted. Feel free to add your own.
1. SOFTPHONE for an existing number: I'd like to be able to register my laptop so that whenever I want, calls that ring on my main Vonage router also simultaneously rings on a softphone installed on my laptop.
With the amount of mobile computing that Vonage users engage in, it would be ideal to answer phone calls on the road without having to lug around the Vonage router, telephone, cables, AND worry about connecting it to an ethernet cable and power socket. (when we all know that hotels are mostly Wi-Fi these days).
2. LANDLINE backup: Ability to hook up a landline to the Vonage router so that when my Internet access is interrupted (or Vonage goes down), incoming calls are forwarded to my landline for 100% reliability.
3. RELIABILITY: This is not a feature as much as a wish-list. I know for a fact that Vonage numbers have problems receiving in-coming calls from certain phone numbers. E.g. Certain German callers can NEVER reach me on my Vonage line, despite trying their landline and mobile lines. I've had US callers have problems reaching me as well. This is obviously a no-go if Vonage ever wants to make a profit by getting small business customers like Packet8.
