What I chose to do with a device that I purchased, that I *own* is of no business to Vonage. That I wish to use the second port to access my company's SIP proxy and the fact that Vonage holds the password to allow me that ability is clearly illegal.
It'd be like purchasing a car and having the manufacturer FORCE you to come to them every time you needed new tires.
The router is *mine* and if I want to change the settings on the second port, that's my own business, not Vonage's. And if I happen to make an error and cause trouble with the first port, then it's Vonage's responsibility as a service provider to provide me with the technical support necessary to re-establish my service.
All I want to do is insert my own settings to use port 2 on my router. My router has TWO ports. I bought a TWO PORT router. If Vonage will not "let" me use the second port, then they are clearly doing something that's illegal. How can they withhold that information from me legally? It's MY router, not theirs.
I certainly think that his might require retaining legal council and exploring case law. I'm almost certain that there's established case law that confirms that they are doing is illegal.
But I will have to hand it to you guys. This is the fastest I have EVER received word back from technical support. Typically I have to wait on hold for an hour or more to get a simple question answered. Funny how when I start nosing around at your big corporate secrets and trying to find out what makes the router tick in order to use it for my purposes as well that you guys all come out of the wood work.
Perhaps you were equally as attentive to the needs of your customers, the only really big complaint people have about Vonage wouldn't be that their customer service is so absolutely reprehensible.
Now put that in your I/O port and smoke it.
