My father decided that he wanted to switch to Vonage after hearing that for $15 a month, he could get basically the same plan as he was paying for through Verizon, who was charging him $55 a month. We live in Canton, MA...so this might help local residents have an idea of how we were treated.
We signed up, received the Linksys router, and it was DOA. Talked to Vonage, they sent us a new one, hooked it up behind our Linksys WRT54G and all worked fine. The temporary # they gave us worked fine, for both incoming and outgoing calls.
We took awhile to send in the transfer form (LOA) to Vonage, but when we finally did, they transferred it to Verizon, but we got an e-mail saying the names were different on the Vonage and the Verizon account. My fathers name is James, and on the Verizon bill it was "Jas" and on the Vonage bill, it was "James." So we had to fill out a new LOA and fax it in.
They sent the first transfer letter to Verizon on May 25th. Last night, June 1st, our house phones went dead at about 9pm. Today, my mother calls me asking why they were dead, and why the Vonage line phones worked. What happened was, Verizon killed our line, but Vonage wasn't able to transfer the # over. My father missed important calls from work because of this, and got reamed by his boss today. As of now, our house line is still dead.
My father called Vonage and Verizon today, and ended up in a conference call with both companies. Verizon did nothing wrong, the Vonage representative on the other hand was in awe in how quickly Verizon killed our line. So after they all spoke for over an hour, Vonage said they would have our # transferred over within 24 hours, and we got a few months free, as well as reimbursed for the activation fees.
So as of now, we're still waiting for our phones to be able to receive incoming calls from our old #. I'll post back when everything is fixed.
