Vonage only offers 2 kinds of devices. a) a phone adapter only or b) a phone adapter that also has router capabilities.
People choose option a if they already own a router and people choose b if they don't.
I believe an adapter only device can work without a router but it would make it impossible for you to use your computer and surf the internet at the same time. it also makes it a pain to have to alway switch back and forth while you are there.
I don't think there is really a preferred model.
The most obvious one is the $14.99 which gives you 500 mins/month and once you exceed about 780 minutes, then it is best to go to the unlimited @ $24.99
Please note that Vonage charges for any changes to your plan.
Well, Vonage does not ship devices to India or any other country except Canada and the UK but you have order the devices from those countries. You can purchase a device here at a retail store in the states and then activate it once you get to India saving you some time.
Yes, I believe there is a 30 day money back guarantee. But if you buy it from a retail store, I am not sure what their policies are in terms of returns and refunds.
If you choose to get the device from Vonage, you will have to return it to them which can be very costly having to ship it from India. Also make sure to have it returned via a deliver tracking service like UPS, DHL, FedEX, etc.
