Vonage VoIP will radically change the nature of telephone communication in the world

Voip will radically change the nature of telephone communication in the world by taking the actual voice call and separating it from the physical infrastructure and making it a protocol which can be carried by any infrastructure. Just as IP can be carried via wireless 802.11, Ethernet, DSL, GPRS, EDGE, and many other techniques, phone conversations will be liberated from the old copper/fiber system and freed to travel over many different avenues to radically reduce costs.

In addition these new infrastructures provide the needed boost in bandwidth to carry video conversations, allow for presence indicators and will hasten the demise of phone numbers tied to physical locations to be replaced with addresses not for just people, but for things (companies) and roles (help desk on call).

Currently Voip can be achieved at a much lower price point than 3G wireless technology when the broadband costs are excluded. In many situations this is valid because sufficient broadband capacity is available as a side effect of another function, or broadband is provided by a third party for little or no costs (hot spots).

Even when broadband costs are factored in, the addition of Voip can be done at so little cost that it makes sense to purchase an unlimited EVDO package and use Voip instead of also purchasing a separate CDMA voice plan.

In addition wireless technology depends on the installation and maintenance of a specific type of hardware supporting a specific protocol. Voip can operate in conjunction with that hardware but can also operate in many environments where that hardware is not available, for example in rural areas or inside buildings.

I do not understand your vision. If the servers never send any data to the clients how does the user get the information?

There will become less differentiation between voice and data minutes under the new systems. In the future the mobile phone makers will have to make their systems interoperate with Voip systems in order to succeed. Already phones are being sold with Voip capability because Voip phone calls can be made in places where mobile networks might not be available. By separating the protocol from the transport layer and indeed separating the identifier (phone number/sip address) from the device we create a great deal of flexibility.

Data usage is problematic with wireless services because we don't know how to bill for Internet usage. It is very hard for companies to sell data services on the per MB plans because they can't relate MB to items that users can measure (# of emails, # of webpages). However, wireless data is very important not solely for consumer use but also for automated devices. Having efficient wireless transports that restrict the protocols that can be used will be ignored by the marketplace as dead end technology.

Yet your service would cost more, be available in fewer places and not support as wide of a range of functions. It would provide a fixed user experience limited by the capabilities of the wireless handsets.

Sorry, Vonage is in the business of spending investors money to increase Voip customer base. I doubt they have any interest in making donations to develop a system that the chief architect claims would put them out of business. Best of luck with your venture.
