Using an adapter that is a different voltage rating, especially a higher voltage is just asking for trouble. The router will most likely not work and you have a good change of damaging the router beyond repair. It is always recommended to use the exact power adapter that came with your router, if this is not possible make sure you match the voltage ratings exactly.
