Using Comcast cable in South Hadley MA (near Springfield)
Speeds should be something like 6MB/368.
Modem is D-Link DCM200 (i think), already have a Linksys BEFW11S4 v2.

I have tried to set up my RTP300 and things have gone from bad to worse.

First I tried just plugging the RTP300 into my existing router, as the instructions specify. I could not then access the RTP300 admin page. I could get a dial tone, but service didn't seem to be that good (testyourvoip was returning results of 1.0, and all I had running was a Bittorrent client with uploads capped at 35Kb/s.)

Wanted to try and take advantage of the QoS on the RTP300, so I decided to set up the system using Rickster's advice on this forum (don't have the link to the thread handy).

This is what I did:

LAN address: 192.168.15.1
DHCP: off

LAN address: 192.168.1.1
Gateway: 192.168.15.1

|computers remain as before on the existing 192.168.1.x subnet

RTP300 manual specified to not use Port Forwarding for the DMZ address, so I skipped that step of Rickster's.

Both router's admin pages were now accessible, and everything seemed to work great for a second, and then my Internet connection speeds dropped through the floor (like, 300baud slow). I noticed that my BEFW11S4 router had been cloning the MAC address of my primary PC's Ethernet card, so I cloned it to the RTP300 as well. Didn't really have an effect. Unplugged the cablemodem for 30 seconds - no help. I tried un-cloning the address of my old router, so that everything wasn't spoofing the same MAC address - also no help.

At this point I don't even know what I should be doing to troubleshoot the problem, let alone how to fix it. I tried running some pings/traceroutes, but I don't know enough about networks to know what experiments to try, and how to interpret the resulting data.

Have I been overthinking this problem? Should I just forgo the QoS, hook the routers back up the first way, and then set up remote administration for the RTP300 so that I can get to the admin page? I guess if I really want QoS, I could always swap out my BEFW11S4 and buy a Linksys WRT54G to replace it...

Alternately, is it the RTP300 at fault here? It looks like it has the .43 firmware version; is there a newer one I need?

Thanks in advance for any advice, comments, suggestions, or even just sympathy! Looks like tonight I'm going to go on a phone-tech-support marathon...
