To make a long story shorter...
After several months of trying to get my street address into the database so that it is recognized by Vonage's E911 third party service provider, I was told that there was legislation in NJ that prohibits (!!??) all Voip providers from providing E911 service. Now, I'm not a stupid person and I have worked in traditional telecom for 20+ years and I know this is a bunch of bull sh*t.
If I can't get E911 to work, I will have to move to another provider, but frankly, I'm happy with the QoS I'm getting and I don't really want to go through the hassle. I know that it is available in my area and I spoke to the police at the non-emergency number and when I dial 911 they get some random phone number and don't get my address.
The reason I don't think it works is that Vonage (or their supplier) requires you to enter your address in three parts (number, name, type). So 111 Main St. works, but 111 Main doesn't. I live on a street with a name that is french (e.g. 111 Rue Main - if you don't speak French, "Rue" means street) So the form field for the street type (eg. street, road, place, etc) will not take a blank, and it also will not take "Rue", although when it is all concatenated it would be in the wrong order. I tried typing in a space, and underscore, a dash, a period, and selecteding Road, Street, etc. and they all get rejected (some quickly and others were accepted then rejected after several weeks!).
Other people that I know with Voip in NJ are getting E911, so this is the only logical conclusion I can come to. Anyone have any more details on this? My last trouble ticked was basically the details needed for supporting my address, but then I got this crazy phone call about NJ laws NOT allowing Voip providers to send real E911.
Any advice??
